Newman told me dinner was @ 6:30.
I said ok we are just going to run up the beach
In the 110. Stretches of the beach are cordoned
Off because of nesting birds by biologists. When you hit
one of those areas you are forced off the hard/wet sand
of the beach (where I have run up to 60 in high range) onto
on the back road behind the dunes which is soft dry sand and
pretty deep in spots the drag is great so low range is required.
So Trey and I were 17miles up the beach @6pm when we realized
What time it was and started hauling it back. We get about 2 miles from
the cabins and here comes Newman looking for us. Great place. I don't
of any others like it on the East coast. This should be on everyone's bucket
list. The park ranger on duty on the island apparently got stuck badly twice
yesterday to the point it took an excavator on tracks to pull him out. 110 gets lots
of envious looks out here. Sorry iPhone 6- can't like how it drops words and re-formats

Man I am supremely jealous of you guys...but quite happy I didn't attempt it. On the way to HH on Thursday I lost 5th gear in my LT77, still have the others incl reverse but who knows what is going on with pieces of crap circulating in a tranny - not good. Would have been a drag on the island for that to happen.

The winds have died down and the sun has set. Couldn't figure a better way to spend our last night here.

UD, Newman and the rest of us talked about this trip for 2 years before making it last year.
We were in NY attending our sons graduation from Kings Point, but will attend next year.
PI is one of the best kept secrets on the east coast and not to be missed.
Miles of open beaches without a person in sight.
Let's get a larger group next year !!!
We don't want Newman's excellent food to go uneaten.

Trey was casting into the surf past 10:30 last night. We only came in off the beach last night because he ran out of shrimp/bait. Croakers and spots mostly. I stopped a bunch of guys along the beach and asked what they were catching, weather had the larger stuff not feeding. It blew hard all night, this morning the water had all pushed up the sound and the ferry was bumping bottom. I had a 7:45am off time. Finally came off @11:45 he couldn't take but three cars @ a time. Made it back to Virginia in time for dinner on dads 82nd birthday !
Picked up a tank of diesel in Goldsboro,Nc that must have been half water, the psd was spitting and popping off and on all the way after that fill up. The bank signs we passed along the way through NC said it was 101 or 102F. Sucks coming off a barrier island with strong breeze to that.

I don't care who misses it as long as our core group does that same weekend every year. Water temp was perfect, air temps in the high 80's , a few black flies but no mosquitoes. Nothing a little deet didn't completely repel. Mary the Ranger in the PS shack was the same as last year. Kary and Capt Rick both remembered us. Capt Rick tells the Golden Monkey Tripel/ beer story, given to his wife by the land rover guys, and what it did to her, to anyone who will listen. He and I had a good chuckle about that again a year later.

FWIW the park service hasn't changed anything.....yet.

Too bad about the big ones not biting. But your Dad's 82nd birthday is pretty spectacular! and on Father's Day too... Happy Birthday and cheers to that!

It was very hard boarding the ferry back to the main land. I will be setting my reservation for the same time next year.
