I agree! It's a gorgeous drive! Pun intended! Sorry. It was too easy. ;-) Hood river is a great destination and an experience getting there to boot. I'm sure a stop at Multnomah Falls or maybe the drive up to the Vista House might be in order. I-84 is a terribly slow road (60mph on a divided freeway). For most automobile traffic, it's excruciating as you want to drive 80mph. Been there, done that, got the ticket. But it's obviously perfect for Defenders! It's highly patrolled but we won't have a problem with speed! ;-)

On a separate note. I spoke with the manager of Kells in N.W. Portland if we were still thinking of a smaller gtg in town. The lot is ours if we wanted it. Afternoon, or early evening preferred. If we did a Sunday, the bank across the street, BofA, has space for 15 vehicles and is just, if not more visible from the entire inside of the brew pub. It could be ours as well (additionally) as the bank is closed Sunday. Bank manager suggested it as I also bank there. I just have to confirm times with the towing company. So there it is. Let me know if we want to go this direction. First photo is of the BofA lot from inside the bar. Second pic is of the reverse perspective (BofA lot to Kells). The other four pics are of Kells' adjacent lot.

Looks great. I say we do both on separate weekends. I can organize the Gorge/HR scenic day trip for those one are interested. We can hit up Timberline Lodge on the return if the tourists haven't already seen it.

I've actually never been up to the Vista House. I usually also make it a habit to go visit Herman on a trip like this.

Neill,

How about Saturday March 21st for a tourist day trip down the Gorge to Hood River and back?

We can do a meet up at Kells sooner than that of course.

Who's in for the day trip?

Shall we do a Sunday prior at Kells to plan the Gorge trip? Either the 8th or the 15th? Neither interfere with St. Patrick's day, which would obviously be a problem at Kells! ;-)

I've only been once before but I always look up at it as I pass. I was curious one day and checked it out. It's a great view, a real time capsule of a building, and a nicely forested and twisty drive up the hill. I never knew about Herman. What a kick.

If it's going to be a Saturday, how about starting off at the Cars & Coffee event?

Never been, but it's a good idea. A great rally point and easy to get to I-84 from there too!

For the love of god no. Way too early. I don't understand the fascination of getting up at the butt crack of dawn to listen to stuck up Bentley owners talk about their cars.

The weekend is for sleeping in.

OK, well I take it back, this one is much more reasonable. The one in Orange County goes from 6 until 9.

I didn't know they had a Cars and Coffee in Portland.

I'd love to do a trip up the Gorge, but I'm probably good for anything we plan. I can't think of any reason why I may not be able to come. Will be cool to meet some of you. Some.

JK

Obviously, I'm in. Do we want to do the Portland pub thing still? On a prior weekend to plan the "Gorge"ous trip, or just call it good driving our "bar crawlers" around RR? I'm in either way.

I'm up for a pub meet sometime. The Gorge Day Trip is about 3 months out so we have plenty of time to get together before then.

For the Gorge Day Trip we'd probably meet at Stumptown Coffee and depart from there at 8am. Depending on the number of requested detours we'd probably be back in town around 5pm or so. I have a spare seat for someone in my truck and I believe Chris does too? Hoping that we can talk Brian (Defenders Northwest) into coming down and whoever else is up for adventure.

Ok, cool. I was hoping I wasn't the only one! ;-) Should we bump this up now that we literally have an event shaping up mid-March? Say, Portland pub meet mid-February, or keep everything in March? Are we all bringing series or defenders?
