Overland Expo East Oct 2-4, Asheville, NC

Registration is open for the Overland Expo East event. Who's coming this year?
We had 63 Land Rovers in the exclusive Land Rover camping area last year - lets try for 100 this year!

Roseann Hanson emailed me today asking about the Land Rover group camp and if it was going to happen again. I told her I'd get the word out. Let's get a count of those in, so we can start counting cars. Roseann said she'll have a group camp coordinator soon to begin planning. Our group camp pretty much had the best site on grounds last year. Hopefully we can secure the same spot.

So let's hear it. Who's in?

I'm in.

I emailed Roseanne as well - I'll coordinate with the members of Solaros here in Georgia and we need to see if we can get a POC for ROAV, CROC, Old North State and the Florida, Arkansas, Texas and Blue Ridge Rover clubs.

I agree - I thought we had one of the best sites on the property for our camp - if we can get the grass mowed there it would be perfect.

Hmmm....seems I remember that after getting bunch of people to commit last year, they desired to do a discount that some didn't get as they had signed too soon. Then was the "who are you and your group?" at the gate.
Generally I hope they tighten up a little from last year. Non committal at this point in time.

...well, what I do know for certain is that I'll be RuRRing 3 kitties back to Staci and Chris. I'll probably be dropping said kitties by their place first. 3 very talkative and sweet cats +1400 miles + figuring out how to do potty breaks. Oy. It's going to be interesting..

Really? You're going to add the complexity of cat transport to this conversation?

She asked the guy who didn't camp with or hang out with the Land Rover group to coordinate that group?

Pretty sure we are out. Had a great time sitting around the propane camp fire drinking for three days with friends but the unimpressive/minimal vendor presence has me thinking we will go to the rover event that weekend.

no, she asked me if i knew if the land rover group was forming again, and I told her I would raise the question on the forum.

And for the record, i didn' hang out because I spent most of my time volunteering for the event, and Rick told me that no non-rovers allowed, which would have excluded half my friends that were going with me. This year, I'm not volunteering at the front check in booth so i can hang out, and I'm camping right under that friggin tree with a bowl of skittles.

By 'our group' do you mean the Land Rover group that Newman set up, or Camp Kellgren, party of 1?

the land rover group that Newman setup. I had to park on the fringe, on a slope, and it sucked.

Well I'm going this year regardless. If anyone wants to take the lead, go for it. I just got the conversation started.

Personally, I knew Mark had his hands full working the event....no harm, no foul. My personal apologies if i alienated you from the group. That was not my intention.
Every event has bumps in the road first time out of the box. Hell, I dam near went crazy the first year I worked Conclave. I have never attended Expo West, but do hope the the East event can grow and evolve to rival the western gathering. As a group, the Rover community showed up in force and we had a good time among ourselves. Its very possible that a showing like that might not happen again for a year or so, but I don't think the event has lost the groups overall support. I do feel that being the same weekend as one of the longest and most well known gatherings on the east coast, MAR, is a major point of contention.
That being said, I am working on attending both Expo and MAR. Time will be short at both stops, but I will do what I can to support both. Also I am willing to gather the troops, as it may be, and be the contact/liaison for Expo if desired.
