Thanks Brian,

We are heading up tomorrow so I'll probably see you Sat. Hope you can swing by and catch the rollover demo this year? We're going to be in the main demo area just after lunch on Sat.

I'm torn between wanting to be busy at the booth, and slow so that I have some time to get around to the rest of the vendors and events.

Maybe we will sell out of stuff by Saturday morning and ill have some free time!

Safe travels up the rim, and come find me when you get settled.

Brian

On the facebook link - there are a series of kitchen boxes of various shapes and sizes. I could not see who the vendor was for those? Can you share that information?

(BTW - from the photos it looks like it was a neat time with lots to drool over....)

There were several "self contained kitchen" vendors. Look at the exhibitor list on the Overland Expo website - should be links to all the different manufacturers.

Good show, bigger than last year, and very busy. No time for us this year to walk around and see everything.

Ian, can you go over the basic steps behind the process. Don't know when I'll make it to expo for a demo, but with your pictures, it'd be nice to know the principles behind all of the rigging points, etc

Hi Aaron, no worries. Justin from Lucky 8 hosts the Demo and we show how to put a rolled truck back on its wheels in a few different ways. This year we rolled it and righted it 4 times and used a different recovery method each time.

1st time its a simple assisted recovery using a 2nd vehicle and a strap to the frame of the rolled truck to pull it back onto its wheels.

2nd time is also assisted but this time we use the winch of a 2nd vehicle to a tree strap around the body mounts to show how going higher can make the recovery easier.

3rd time we assume the truck is alone but has an electric winch. In the demo we use 2 anchors to redirect the winch line back to the bottom of the truck and allow it to pull itself back over. Nice pic I found of that one below. In this instance we used a ground anchor and a 2nd truck to represent the anchor points. We explain that it could just as easily be a tree/rock/buried tire, etc. Uses 2 snatch blocks of course but you can do it with one as long as you have or can create a suitable anchor facing roughly the bottom of the vehicle to change the direction of the winch line.

Finally for the 4th one we use a high lift jack. Its never going to be your 1st choice but it does demonstrate that all else failing its possible to right a vehicle on your own with a high lift if that's all you have. You do need the accessories for the jack to use it as a winch of course (chain with link hooks to shorten it, a fitting for the top of the jack to attach a line to and 2 winch extensions or ropes).

That what you wanted to know?

Ian
