Other high points off Dweb aside from the Jeeps leading Land Rovers on the 60th Anniversary and the lack of transparency regarding the venue choice include aspects like
-No night trail rides
-ROAV's core leadership are much like the Armed Forces in terms of dedication/devotion to god, mission, and...MAR.

There was some fantastic dialogue at various times, but truth be told, you're not missing much by not reading it.

DB's comment about distance from the Boggs Clan is well taken-though that makes it difficult to aquire the flag...

Pendy's suggestion @ 2am when the 3rd BC confrontation occured (in the Dave dome) regarding late night campsite conversation was priceless. Regarding the flag- I believe the culprit is in our midst.

It should be enshrined. A place of honor at Jay's awaits it...

Dave - that's what I was thinking about a shanty town. Not much for organizing, but tell me where to be and what to bring and i'll be there.

Most of this stuff doesn't bother me, but the jeeps leading us on trail rides at a rover only event does seem a bit silly. Is the event open to non-rovers as well this year?

I'll be happy to set up a dwelling in the shanty town or nearby, but I'm staying in the hotel vice the infield of a dirt horse track, esp if I can't wheel at night.

I think I could stomach the jeep thing if I felt that there was any transparency in venue selection-but there wasn't. Don't get me wrong, ORE is beautiful land and the wheeling will be fun-but there were options out there.

No matter, can't complain or offer suggestion without participation so I'm def in.

Story I got from Chuck who is a board member is that a lot of the trails were built/cut/made/maintained by this group who cut a deal with the property owner. Any event held at this venue "has" to have this group leading the trail rides. Charles you wheel with a club that mostly jeeps all the time whats the big deal ?

I'm up for shanty town. Mike Mason said the night trail ride thing isn't completely out of the question as long as he can organize them. The one thing that will be different is there won't be hours of traffic jams on the trails if one truck gets stuck like @ Pearls Pond.Open fires are still permissable, you just have to bring a fire pit- which is the same rule they had @ Pearls Pond.

I don't have an issue with Jeeps leading trails. As you say I ride with Jeeps all the time (more than with pure rover groups) and have been recovered by many a Jeep. I have owned several Jeeps too. Loved em.

I have issue with the fact that this is supposedly a rover-only event, and supposedly celebrating it. In that light I think we should have a venue that is really rover-only, or open it up to anyone that wants to attend, and wheel whatever vehicle they have. Not enough to stop me going, but I do find it odd.

If I were King(TM), I'd train a group of rover guides prior to the event and let them guide the trails for the MAR.

Oh, speaking of wheeling with Jeeps, who's going to Big Dogs Main Jambo this weekend with me?

Right now, I'm in.
Wife, kids and me plan to leave Thursday early afternoon during the kids' nap from NOVA and drive down to Charlottesville area and have a nice family evening there. Stay in a motel/hotel in that area (or a little south) and finish the drive Friday morning to be at MAR bright and early (at least.... that's the plan! ). We will be hoteling around ORE (Lovingston, VA) Friday and Saturday night.

I have tried to pawn off making reservations on Donna and she might call Mary.

Regarding stopping on the way down, I don't think it's that far. Why not drive straight through to the hotel and be done with it?

The drive isn't bad at all from up here. C-ville traffic is really the worst of it-though that's mitigated by the bypass (unless you're like me and demand to go to The Tavern for breakfast on the way). I like the drive a lot more than trying to get to MAR.
