Dude, don't knock it until you try it. It has plenty of character. We go in the back anyway, and it's as seedy as it gets. I couldn't even tell you what's in the mall other than a bank.

On the other hand, I guess the flip side is if I need a Super Cuts, Ames, or a Jared Jewelers I'm all set with just one stop after HH.

That stretch of 495 over by Kilroys sucks pretty bad in rush hour.

Dairy Queen, Rite Aid, Safeway, Bakery, 7-11, gas station, post office, golf store (I think), some other stores as well.. My kids like the dairy queen..

It's like a bigger version of Jays only with TVs and more people.

I agree...it is like a big dive bar! I'm game for whatever but the criteria we always come back to seems to be outside seating and parking...Kilroy's is one of the few places I know that has plenty of both

I used to drive that way in rush hour, and, like everywhere around here, it sucks. Construction and congestion, and its not getting any better anytime soon. I think Vienna Inn would be fair to everyone. It would be easier for those coming from outside 66, they just get off at nutley street or 123 exits. For those coming from DC area, head out 29 or 50 (try to avoid tysons 495/123 intersections), or go the backway through mclean to vienna. never been to kilroys either, so i wouldnt mind trying it.

It would be nice though to have outdoor seating, and I do not think vienna inn has that.

If we stick with arlington, rhodeside grill or carpool get my vote.

Ok, ok, ok....I will give it a try and not gripe. I will just have to divert my eyes from the Chuck-E-Cheese that I am picturing looming next door to Kilroys. If we can sit outside and oogle the trucks then I am happy.

Vienna Inn is a cool place but definitely no outside seating and it gets really crowded!

There is Nicks in Alexandria, lots of parking, opens at 4pm, granted its a country bar....so that will tick off 90% of the folks on here

if this were the crowd that rolls in diesel F350's with dual smokestacks and 10 inch lifts, nicks might be the right place. been there, but dont remember outdoor seating. do they have it? i think thats something that people here would like.

there are places in alexandria, but that will only add time to commutes.

I think this place would be good. http://www.clareanddons.com/index.html

Outdoor seating, plenty of parking, and a cool atmosphere.

I know that Carpool has been noted as "not divey enough", but one advantage of it is that you can see your trucks from the outdoor seating area and it's pretty big to boot.

Doug, I'm going to have to do a drive-by trip to Clare and Don's, thanks for the recommendation!

I'll second the falls church location, that would help with the MD folks traffic a bit. Someone local go check it out.

Let's make a short list and hit them one at a time over the next few months and see what we like. We can order them by the number of votes of active participants, but if 2-3 people think it's worth trying, then it's worth trying imo.

Kilroy's qualifies so it's first up. What's next?

Dogwood Tavern in Falls Church has a small patio out back and is right on 7 and 29 also has solid parking in the back.

Kilroy's has great character. I have been drinking there since high school. Bring your penicilin and you should be good.

There is also Grievey's which is at 495 and 50 and has plenty of parking and an outdoor deck, but alas is also in a strip mall.

There is no place in Northern Virginia that does not have absolutely suck-a$$ traffic.

At least it skips the 66 part for me, plus I have a location in FC so I'm use to driving that little bit of heaven.
