Doug

That full-on sucks. GLad you were able to save the truck and your skin. I've had engine fires before and they are not fun. So you think it was the wiring that started it?
Let us know if you need a hand fixing things up, sounds like an all hands on deck might be in order.

Many thanks to Ren Ching. We have the truck running. May the Guiness flow...

New engine wiring harness, new spill rail, new lift pump, fresh fuel filter, new manifolds gasket, fancy bypass wiring in the alarm controller. Everything works and should be back on the road tomorrow.

March 19 is on my calendar. (Can someone call the boss and get him to mark this date down too - so he does't enslave me for more overtime, again?)

Off topic quick question - I need to take my 1990 RRC in for a service this week. I've heard good things about Loudoun Rover but its way out in Chantilly, VA. I'm in downtown DC. Has anyone used Roverland4x4? I could use a local recommendation.
Thanks!

I tend to get an annoyed feeling whenever I look back at the only work receipt I ever got from Roverland. Especially when I see the price I paid for o2 sensors. Yes, I was naive.

Don't really get that unhappy twinge when I review my old receipts from Loudoun Rover. Wally might even pick up your truck - did that for me once.

Ask Ren Ching if he has any internal DC recommendations.

I had roverland do some work on the disco early in the winter diagnosing it's inability to pass emissions. I was happy with their work and prices. They've had some issues with managers in the past, but it appears that most of those problems are gone. I'd encourage you to stay away from Arlington Motorcars in Rosslyn, though. At the end of the day there are enough people willing and able to provide driveway space and help that it's worth taking the opportunity to do it yourself.

I'd also enjoy a chance to check out your trucks.

Nothing special there unless you enjoy looking at old salt spray encrusted green Loobs. It's my on-road truck. My off-road truck is in the early stages of rebirth. Series 2A 5 door which will be getting the Psyoptic coiler hybrid treatment.
It's on the Eastern Shore slowly sinking into the mire at present.

ROVERS trials anyone?

Next saturday is the ROVERSclub trials event in Robesonia PA. I've been invited and will go if I can get other NoVa HHers to come too. It's a driver skills thing and I can prolly even do it in the LaWiB. Not heavy off roading. Anyone else?

not to say Im good or the best on rovers, but as a former employee of arlington as soon as I left the place, it went down hill with concern to talent.
customer relations at the office have gotten better.
I second Tony's opinion.... for gods sake they have called me in a few times to do side jobs the current techs can't handle.. and for a small fee they ask me to verify serious diagnosis the current techs have made, before they commit to them.
they have mentioned their interest in bringing me back but they just dont offer enough...
for the time being I rather work at hyundai... lol enough said......
