Just want to say that Dean at Independent reached out to me and was beyond gracious in insisting that I bring the truck back in. That was a few weeks ago and he and the fellas have gone over the job completely. I went over today to look at it, it's coming along great. Absolutely first class. Thank you Dean.

I knew that you just needed to talk to Dean. Ran over to borrow a tap this week and saw the truck. It now looks as if the cross member is original, except for the color change. Looks like custom work. This could have been corrected long ago. How many shops would re-work a repair this many years after the fact? Communication is a good thing.

Other than this one, probably zero. Dean kept apologizing for not making more of an effort to follow up when this all went down two years ago. He really went out of his way to make it right.

Hi All,

Finally took possession of my 86 RHD (first rover). Is the happy hour on for the 21st this month at Kilroys? When do people normally arrive?

Also, heading into overland4x4 tomorrow to do a once over ($109) inspection and check to out the sloppy steering (or last least what my inexperienced tail thinks is sloppy.... maybe its just how it is?). Any concensus on the quality of that shop? (Followed the independence line last dozen or so posts, including the new customization / rehab shop they have and might have to check it out).

Need to decide what to do on this sucker first and create a roadmap. Anyone who wants to bring ideas to the HH, I'll be all ears and taking notes . Don't expect me to understand at least 50% of what you might say... I'm a complete noob and my car experience is limited to a radio wiring and install when I was 16 and maybe an oil change once?

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Yes every third Thursday at Kilroys in arlingdalespringfaxston. Look for the only people with teeth and wearing stupid Land Rover swag. Park in the way back corner and look in the tent.

Yes. As Bill said, we park around back, not in the lot up front. I parked there my first time and couldn't figure where the H____ all these Rovers were!

I have no experience with Overland, but continue to highly recommend Independent Land Rover Specialists in Bethesda. Dean is "good people" and I've never needed rework on anything I've had them do. If you have an interest in learning how to do some things yourself, this group is a great place to gain knowledge and experience, if you're willing to help others in turn.

Look forward to meeting you. Congrats on the new truck! Cheers!

Congrats on the new toy. If you've not done so you should consider joining the Rover Owners Association of Virginia. They host a few different events with designated trails that typically cater to all levels of enthusiasm. ROAV.org

I have an 83 110 with the V8. I took mine to overland when it needed an AGGRESSIVE tuneup (read it died on the way there and I had to flatbed it the last 4 miles) and they did a very nice job. TBH I picked them bc I read decent reviews and they were very near the metro (I live downtown). They did the spark plugs, wires, etc and tuned the hell out of the carbs. Still running perfectly 6 months later.

I had to hold their hands a BIT to get stuff done in a timely way, so maybe just keep that in mind. Id be surprised if that inspection is a while-you-wait affair.

I would discourage crowd-sourcing your solutions from us...until after the third or fourth pitcher

Don't try too hard. They have a way of naming themselves.
