Timing advance was fine. Turns out it was dry-rotted spark plug wires that were arcing against the valve covers, along with a faulty mass air flow meter, and a couple of vacuum leaks. It was a whole mess of small problems.

Doesn't look like this thing is jumping off the shelves, so I reckon your friend can have it unless someone intervenes pretty quick-like. Will you be at Mike's on the 9th? I can bring it along.

And I think I need a username decoder ring--I am just getting my head around people's names, and am a long way from matching those to usernames . . . so please don't hesitate to come punch me in the forehead and say "I am 1 of 40!"

Sounds good Bill. The plan is to be there but I have a kid playing indoor lax that day that might kill my opportunity.

OK, sounds great--if my next child arrives earlier than expected, I'll miss it too--may have to catch you at an HH if either of us don't make it.

And another sub-topic--anyone have a good inch-pound torque wrench they could loan me for 10 min at a HH? Need to tighten something to 62 in-lbs and would love to borrow rather than buy for this one-time use.

Bill if you need one earlier you can borrow one from most auto parts stores. They typically take a deposit via CC until you bring it back. I borrowed one for about a month.

I think Charles has mine - you can borrow it if he's able to bring it to HH (I think he might be OCONUS that week though)

I've got a couple as well, remind me prior to the next HH if you don't track one down by then and I can definitely bring it.

I have one too....but judging by the last time I used it and broke off a flywheel bolt, either:
a) its broken
b) it doesn't work

I think votes are cast - (c) I have no clue how it works

Anyway....you can have it.....need it before HH - come to Mikes on the 9th, oh and bring the stuff for Clay - I can get it to him.

Thought this might be just the crowd to ask....
Ok, I will plan in both bringing the CD player and borrowing a torque wrench at Mike's--if I get antsy may borrow one from auto zone....will let the list know if I do so.

Craig, in my past, when one of my mechanics or crew chiefs said they broke a bolt using a torque wrench, they were justsetting the "number" which was listed in inch pounds in the manual on a foot pound torque wrench! We discussed how they were trying to put 12 times the torque intended. I know that wouldn't be the case with you, but just 'sayin'.

Bill,
If you need one before HH, I've got one and live in S. Arlington. Just shoot me a PM and we can work it out.
