That sucks dude. Wouldn't want to lose power on a night like this, but then again, "we got wood"

HAHAHAHA....great times. Wife was in Mexico City last night - she didn't care. Matt, Sassy and I tuffed it out. Power came back on at 2am, so roughly 4hrs without power - internal temps went to 38 in the house!! eeeeeek....I have the heat up and the pellet stove cranking. Just above 60 right now in most of the house.

Told the wife I am done...looking at properties on the Gulf Coast of FL now.

Hey, I may be right there with you, Craig! We can start up the Gulf Coast HH. However, I'm shocked you were without power. I pictured you as a guy with a backup whole house generator with automatic transfer switch. Living in the District for 20 years, we've suffered through countless power losses and finally bought a 8KW portable generator to help get through. Always seems to happen on either coldest or hottest days. Go figure.

Don't the pellet stoves need power to operate?

yep - pellet stove needs power.

Ron - I do have a generator, but...i would have to run the cord thru a door/window to the pellet stove. I had blind faith on VA Power to get it back up and running. They did.

Doug - Yes - duh! It is a house built this century by cheap labor using the tried and tested stick build with hardy plank siding. I can hear neighbors fart. If I had a well built double walled brick and tile house it would not have been a problem. This place leaks like a sieve.

Hey! Easy on that pellet stove crap. Takes an inverter and a battery to run for about 60 hours....and yes it is one I sell. Trying to do a smile on a tablet sucks...just saying...
On that note...sorry I could not make last eve....30 tons of coal showed and of course in the middle of unloading the forklift desired to shit a hose. Got that all fixed, and came home and had to a dead cow to deal with. Needless to say it was a very long cold dam night.

Its about insulation/R value. FWIW Hardiplank is about the best siding on the market, not the easiest to work with though. Life expectancy is 60 years +

Hoping I wont have to test this. Tomorrows forecast is ugly here. Any idea how many amps mine pulls ?
I have a big 2k inverter but it only makes 17 amps.

You should be fine. The only real draw is when it starts. Other than that, it is just running the fans. The auger motor is nothing.
