Pedro I have one Megasquirt that I built but now find surplus to my needs. If you are feeling adventurous one of these will free you from the Rover ECU forever. You customize and tune engine performance thru a laptop GUI. Much documentation on Megasquirting Rover V8 engines on the MS forum and several Brit V8 forums.

I'm very familiar with MegaSquirt, never owned one, but have played with it... on a Porsche several years ago... Sometimes, I f-up and tend to call it Mega Squid...
I found someone that will set my ECU to 4.6L... I love HH days...
Before I can do anything else and Charles starts messing with me, I have to fix the fans first. Right Charles? hehe

EDIT: It was great seeing you guys last night

Once I get my truck ready, I'm taking my truck there.

Thanks!!!

Oh!! by the way. He will charge an hour of work.

I noticed this on the ECR website:

"Don't be fooled by mechanics that say you don't need an EFI upgrade for your 4.6... you do if you want to see results from your new 4.6. A 4.6 will run safely on a 4.0 tune, but who wants safe when you just plunked down all that dough for a 4.6! Also beware of shops that will go into the stock ECU and toggle the "4.6" window instead of the "4.0" window in the diagnostic computer. The window is there, but the NAS D90 ECU (computer) contains absolutely no 4.6 tunes in it, so doing this may look good to the customer, but it does not change any parameters in the fuel injection computer. We would at least hope these shops don't charge for this useless service."

Not sure if it applies in your case?

I saw this a while back, when looking to upgrade my ECU to the 4.6L.

I did not know ECR sold something like this. Interesting. I'm afraid to even ask what the costs are.

I'm building 4.0/4.6 stroker right now. Wonder what they offer for that.....

Dan, if you want to get all the ponies you possibly can out of a Rover V8, go to aluminumv8.com and start scanning their porn. I think they are getting about 300-something out of a normally aspirated 5.0 stroker on pump gas. They use a combination of Ford pistons, Buick 300 crank with a 1/2 inch offset grind, chevy rods and a crower cam with big lift. The Rover ECU will have to be tossed away (in the land fill where it belongs) in favor of either the Ford A9L Mercruiser or better yet a Megasquirt ECM. With the latter you may add turbocharging or a roots supercharger as long as you use the high pressure MAP sensor.
Supercharger typically increases HP by at least 50%. 400-odd in a Defender would be pretty sick.

I'm not looking to dump that much cash and work into the engine. I mean, it's a Land Rover.... I just want enough power so I can get out of my own way.

Last 4.6 motor I put together was basically stock with the exception of a D&D cam and all the bits that go with the D&D cam for a GEMs system.

This time I'm using the 4.6 crank and rods with 4.0 pistons. I'll also P&P the heads.

I need to check the rumor about the 4.6 cam being the same as D&D's 258. If the 4.6 cam is the same I'll just use that, but I doubt it is.

I've looked at the Megasquirt and I dig it. Mark at D&D and I chatted about it once, but Mark is an Edlebrock man and tried to steer me that way. No way I'm using a carburetor, though. Nice site about Megasquirt here http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showforum=36 It's an option. We'll see.
