Jason, I wish I would have told you about the situation before you left for Charles' house Thursday morning. It would have solved this whole issue!

How close does it resemble the defender hand brake?

Not in Arlington but I need to head over there this week to fetch some items, plus I figure I owe you one.

PM me the details.

Thank you Dave, but I think Pedro may be taking care of it!

On another note, has anyone looked at the "tags" at the bottom of this thread????

You are good to go.

Thanks Carlitos for that... He had a platonic "encounter" with Torrance at Jay's

If you are shipping something to Zack, I should bring the needle to HH and they can include it in the one shipment instead of me shipping it separately.

The D1 hand/emergency brake is a lever-type with a push button on top of the lever to release the hand/emergency/transmission brake. There is a flexible tan cover that looks like leatherette but is really some plastic. When you pull the lever up, it in turns pull a cable that is attached to a piston that pushes on massive brake pads. There is a switch at the botton on the assembly that is used to light up the "Brake" light on the dashboard console.... Ok... Maybe I should stop now!

Sorry man.... Never took out my D90 hand brake, so I have no idea how close/different they look.
Here is a picture of a D1 hand brake (the left side "plate" goes on the floor, so the picture shows it completely pulled up and can be misleading): http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Land-Rov...b67e1f&vxp=mtr this picture shows it in "action": http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ake-light.html)

Looks like Defender handbrake has a different the mounting point(?)
http://www.urbanlandcruisers.com/sho...t-black-90110/
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LANDROVER-DE...item2a2e27e36f

Conversion with Rangie hand brake (???):
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-ch...-defender.html
http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/handbrake/

Anyway... Sorry not much help here I guess except that you should be able to use either if you want to. Oh.... And as a small side note, I did cut a small portion of the bottom plate on mine so it is not 100% "original".

If I owned it I'd say yes, but I Amazon prime'd one a few minutes ago, no rush!

Speaking of bottle openers, Pedro, you still owe me $28 for the one I gave you at Conclave...and someone picked up my other one so now I have none!
