I'm out, I'll be a plane to Spain. If my brother shows up, please haze him accordingly.

anyone got a 4.2l 1995 Range Rover engine they can bring????

Shot the head gaskets, and has a bottom end knocking so the girl is going to pasture until I can figure out what to do!!

I will being my Series 88 - if I feel like throwing the dice - probably means I need to leave home at 3pm to get there!!

I'm bringing my series as well. I can be your pit crew for about 2/3 of the way home if needed.

You could put in a 4.6, which will wake her up quite a bit. If you choose to rebuild, keep in mind that the 4.2 pistons are unavailable, so only if you have secured replacements or have known good pistons should you proceed. Overall, the 4.6 is the most sensible option. You just put all the 4.2 stuff on it. It drops right in and you can use all your everything.

I have a 4.6 long block sitting in the barn. When I get to it, I'll just take all the 4.2 externals and switch it all over to the 4.6, then just pop it into the old lewber.

Yeah Bill I know...it is also a trade off with all the other stuff...ECU's, distributor(or not), tachs etc etc etc with anytype of different motor other than what is in it.

The 4.6 is a good option of course but these are REALLY expensive...upwards of $2K.

I may shove a 4.0 in it....but also thinking Mercedes Diesel

Part of the problem is I am not smart enough to do the work myself so unlike a lot of you I have to factor that cost in as well.

Mm. Well, again 4.6 is a straight up swap. Not as scary as you think. Make a deal with CarloZ to do it for you. I know he has at least one 4.6 short block. Dunny done.

Mercedes diesel will be so much reengineering it'll make your wallet run for safety.

Jarek on NJLR.org forum has a great Mercedes thread for his D1. He just finished a few weeks back but continues to tweak.
