New & Improved NOVA Happy Hour Thread

It's getting to be about that time again, and since I have not been to a happy hour (Charles's "wrenching party does not count - it really wasn't "happy" nor an "hour"), I figured I'd get it started.

How does everyone feel about moving the location a little farther west this time? Jay's is cool and all, and beer is cheap and food is decent. But I think it would be cool if we could find a place with a larger parking lot for our rigs and maybe a better "family atmosphere." Jay's is so small and I come out smelling like an ashtray.

I recommend Mike's American in Springfield - http://www.greatamericanrestaurants.com/mikesmain/ - it's just off the 495 and the 95. You guys can of course pick another place, but maybe it would even better to try a new place each time.

Just a thought, feel free to blast my thread now.....

Springfield is a bit far for me, considering the traffic, especially around the mixing bowl.

Personally, I like Jays. Soon we will be able to sit outside at Jay's, and then the quality level goes WAY up! Less smoke, etc.

Food is DECENT?!?! Jay's has the best dang quesadillas on the planet!

That being said, I would gladly go whereever the event is scheduled.

I'm with Greg, to be honest. Trying to get to Springfield before 7:30 or so is a nightmare for me.

i would love out towards Fairfax/Reston area. springfield and battling the beltway is a nightmare. outside area is nice at Jay's. but like Greg said, i'd try to make it wherever it happens.

I'm cool with whatever the group decides. I actually like Jay's quite a bit. I had no trouble getting there (45 mins) by 7:30 from Annapolis and I cut through DC. Pretty sure I can find it again without using the gps. Some body going to pick a date ?

I am fine with Jays, but I know there are a lot of us who work/live farther west. I just thought it would be cool to try some new places. I realize that screws some of you who live east.

I live right smack in the middle of DC, so anywhere outside a 5 mile radius seems too far. having said that, there are lots of places that have to be better than Jay's which admittedly kinda sucks (see: ashtray effect)

I'm up for traveling. Somewehre with good burgers and lotsa tables. Big parking lot a plus.

Back in the Mostly Metro days we had a few choice spots in MD, IIRC.

Even within Arlington there is the 4 courts. Which does suffer in the parking dept though.

What about the old four P's out on rt 7 in falls church?

or maybe some brewpub type of place? there must be a few good ones around.

If you want a good brew pub there's Rustico in Alexandria, Cap City in Shirlington, Vintage 50 In Leesburg, Tuscarora Mills in Leesburg, or any of the Sweetwaters.

I do love the Rustico . . .

Another divebar option (though still in Arlington) is the Quarterdeck in Rosslyn. Great crabs and some fascinating characters (and cheap beer). There is pretty good parking there as well.

So maybe just try a new place in Arlington? Rustico or the Quarterdeck?

I nominate Wednesday April 16th at the Quarterdeck in Arlington.

I'll forewarn you that the Quarterdeck is a smoking bar as well, but as Greg pointed out, it's damn close to outside drinking season.

16th works here.

April 16th should work for me.

I cautiously accept a temporary change of venue but I just want to say that I think Jay's is a great spot, especially considering the warm weather that is surely around the corner, the low cost booze, the quesadillas and the fact that I know Charles can find it without a GPS (although he may need road support every now and then).
