Need Mid-Atlantic overland route ideas

My posse is starting to research options for a 4-7 day overland route (as off pavement as possible) to do this summer. Open to routes that begin and end with a budget of 1 day travel on each end of the trip (so 2 days max to start and end the route).

I'd like to use this thread for a collection of routes on the Eastern Seaboard and South, as I've struggled with this for years, and wanderlust has me needing much more than just weekend Uwharrie style single location camping events and rallies.

Primitive camping if that can even be done anywhere on this God forsaken overpopulated coast!

i don't know, but if you're passing through the virginia, maryland delaware, and new jersey/penn area, i would definitely be in as a leg support vehicle.

Mike McCaig aka McMike (a founding member and president several times of ROAV)
used to do something similar but the goal was more family oriented in that they usually stayed in bed and breakfasts. I don't think he still does the trips but folks used to rave about them. I'm sure he could give you some good ideas. Most of what they used to do were in the Virginia and West Virginia mountains.

PA has huge tracts of state forest with "drivable trails". You could easily spend 1-3 days up here with very minimal pavement time.

These folks may have some ideas for you... mountain state overland

They have a series of videos that outline some good overland trips. There is a list from Expedition Portal:

No! Not a weekend trip! I want to put a few hundred miles of mud and dust on my alpine white alu! Already have plenty of weekend trips this year planned. I need to get out do a ferrari tuneup on the 2.8. Put NC in my rear view mirror.

uggghhh yeah. For those not in the know, there has been an effort to restart ferry service from Tampa, FL to Cancun, Mexico. If that goes into place, that means us on the Eastern seaboard would be able to drive to tampa, board the ferry, drive off the ferry the next day in Cancun, and cross into Belize and Guatemala WITHOUT having to drive all the way around and through TX and N. Mexico. It's like cutting 3-4 days off of the drive to get the C. American playground. in effect turning a 3 week overland trip into a 2 week overland trip, which for us Americans that are not Briggs, is the usually limit to time off.

From Charlotte it's only 17 hours or just over 1k miles to the start of the North Woods. You could definitely get off pavement for a week.

The Tampa-Cancun ferry sounds great!
