Moab Jun 26-Jul 1

Heading out to Moab the last week in Jun and would love to meet some of ya'll fortunate enough to live out that way. Melissa and Trevor G if i can persuade him are going too. Also any info would be great too. I've been checking out some site. But info from people that have been there before would be great.

Tyler, I never plan that far ahead. However, Moab is not far away so count 2 D90's in as of now. Are you planning to camp or stay in a hotel?

I don't know if you consider this camping or not but there is a camp ground called the Oasis where they have showers and all. We camped there at the rally and only paid $60 for 3 days and it was big enough for my tent and Hipperts. I think we can find a bigger lot and we all can camp there to reduce cost. What do you think?

Phil, do you think you'll bike on the same trail as the rover guys? I have my kids with me, but they can ride with my girlfriend while we follow. You think that's possible?

Yep there camping is similar to Red Ridge but no mud and the sites are all right next to each other, the showers are pretty nice, and clean. Most of the people there are oldies in their motor homes, so all the tent sights were open. They have 10 or 20 sites all in a row, so no problem for a group. I don't know if they allow campfires but I think it is a bit warm for that there. You will be along the main road and only 5 minutes from gas stations, resturants (nice ones and Mc Ds and BK) and grocery stores. Buy lots of water! And I mean lots! I was drinking a gallon a day, and it was not that hot when I was there.

i am not sure i havent been there to ride or wheel. I am not sure I dont see why they couldnt pedal along. If i went i would hit up some of the MTB trails (primary motive) in addition to some wheelin, well as much as a stocker D can do....

Dates are firm. It about the only week this summer i don't have a race to organize. The oasis sounds fine with me.

Phil, when I was out there last summer there were some bikers, and they were begging us to trade rides! You have to remember the air is thinner up there and it makes things a bit more difficult if you are not used to it.

Phil: I will be bringing the C-Dale. So I can trash it out if need be, however I might bring both bikes depending on space.

What is a basic lit of things needed for a trip to Moab? Keep in mind a few of us will be traveling quite aways.
If I can start getting stuff early enough I might be able to pull this off.
On another subject, Can any of you guys get on the DWeb forums? I think I might be banned. Not that DWeb is a good source of information anymore but I did watch the trail ride section and the general chit chat.
To many big talking web wheelers that just want to tell you why your stuff is no good while pimpin' thier favorite vendor.

I'm planning on taking a lot of water and rover vital fluids. I'm not planning on doing anything out there that's overly crazy. I'll still need to drive it home and then drive it once I'm home. As for D-web I can log in no problem and your profile is still on the site. I did have an issue trying to log in a day or so ago.

Here is my tentative list for Moab:

Water and lots of it

Oil (6 quarts and filter)

2 gallons of pre-mixed anti-freeze

Extra Air filter (one for wheeling is the K&N and a paper filter)

Towels

Tool Box (everything from hose clamps, extra hoses, wheel chocks, spark plugs, every metric wrench size known to man, extra fan belt, power steering fluid, breaker bar plus sockets, hi-lift with base, Allen keys, OHMS Reader)

Camera - Extra batteries

Flashlight (two of them)

Power Inverter (2 of them)

Blankets

Matches and Lighters

Bearings (including wheel bearings)

Shackles (rear and two extras, lots of recovery gear)

Misc extra parts -- Extra battery, extra starter, extra viscous fan unit, alternator, idler pulley, extra lug nuts, extra power steering pump, extra sensors (ECTS, FTS), CV Joints. I know this may seem excessive however things that should be taken into careful consideration are that most of us will be more than 1K miles from home.

Food !! Lots of snacks and stuff

I will add more things as I comprise the list in greater detail.

Another thing to consider that I learned about when I was out there was dust storms. Although we never ran into one I would not want to be caught in one with the top down. I'm not sure what you would do f the top was off other then seek alternate shelter but it something for the ST guys to think about.

Bring a big cooler! And they sell dry ice out there at the gas stations; I don't know how much better it is then regular ice but something to try. And be sure to keep plenty of gas in the tank, there was one spot on the way there that had no gas stations for 50+ miles. Doesn't sound like much until you are pulling into the gas station on fumes and praying that you'll make it? So a 5 gallon jerry of gas may be a good idea.

Man Discos must have a lot more space in them then 90s!

LOL! No girls just know how to pack better!

I might over-pack a bit however I am willing to share whatever anyone else might need. Most of my "spare" parts should work on the other D1's and the D-90's.

I also forgot to put sunscreen (Tyler).. I love the sun so I plan to soak up those Moab Rays!!!

You are a trouble maker! And what girly secrets are there to packing a power steering pump so it takes up less room?

Bring water in those cheap 1 gallon jugs (like milk comes in), when done right you can drain the oil into the small opening on top. This is a messy process but if you cut another jug into a funnel it is much easier. Tyler has seen this being done before without any funnel in the grass by a port-a-potty.
