Meet South African overlanders Graeme, Family, & 130 July 1st @ Defenders NW

Meet author Graeme Bell & Family at the Defenders Northwest Shop for a book signing, meet & greet, and happy hour. Graeme will have his book “We Will Be Free” for sale – if you can’t make the event we will have his book in the store as well (But we would rather locals come out and buy directly from them to help fund their travels and share drinks with some awesome people)

Graeme as their well sorted Defender 130 will be at the shop Wednesday July 1st – we are hosting an informal meet and greet from 4pm-7pm. Following we will have an overlander caravan through Gig Harbor to the nearby 7-seas brewery tasting room (all ages welcomed) for a pint and a few more stories. This event is open to all who love a good story, a well traveled Land Rover, or an excuse to go to the pub on a Wednesday evening.

In 2010, the Bell family, Graeme, Luisa, Keelan and Jessica, set off in their Land Rover on an African adventure which would ultimately afflict them with the overlanding addiction. After touring Southern and East Africa for six months they returned to South Africa, to normal life and the corporate grind . Only touring in their trusty Landy, Mafuta, could still their trembling hands and sate their insatiable hunger. The decision was made to live an alternative travel lifestyle, a decision which would take them and Mafuta to South America where, through a combination of good luck and bad decisions, they circumnavigated the continent for over two years before setting their sights on North America. This is their story, the hard days, the laughter, the breakdowns, the life lessons and the love for each other and the road less travelled.

I'm really looking forward to spending more time with this adventurous, inspiring and friendly family again. For those of you live too far to make it to the event I highly suggest ordering the book from DNW. It's not only a great way to participate in their journey but it also contains content and language of a mature nature. What more could one ask for!

It's been nice having them in - good stories and interesting perspectives (and the Harbor isn't too bad a place to visit in the Summer either)

If you are that close you could always drive up tomorrow for a visit - and back the next morning!

It would be nice to see a rough itinerary for their travels here.

Like most long term Overlanders they don't have an itinerary for their travels, just a loose objective to keep a bit of momentum…

At the present here is what they are planning:

Headed to the Arctic circle before winter along the Canadian Rockies most likely - and then south some direction which will be determined once they can go no further north - the route down is possibly coastal, maybe into the interior, or potentially east. The schedule is completely season driven - chasing the summer as best as possible.
