Maryland Rover Lunch - June 29th

Everyone,

Gary Landes of Rover Works (http://www.landrovermd.com) wants to get Maryland Land Rover owners together. He wants this first meeting to be very casual, and just a chance to get to know one another. He said we will plan additional meetings, picnics, or off-road runs at lunch.

The Meeting will be Sunday June 29th at 10:30 am, in the parking lot outside of Dick’s Sporting goods in Columbia Crossing. We should all be able to park together. This shopping center is located just minutes off I-95, on Route 175.

Gary is planning to be available for questions, and to diagnose problems on Rovers until lunchtime – So if you need your truck looked at, get there early!

12:00 – 12:30 we will all we will all walk over to Famous Dave’s BBQ for a causal lunch.

I will continue to update the Rover’s that will be there every week on the D-90 Chat Forum. Right now coming:

1) 1951 Series I, 80”
2) 1966 Series II, 109” Hybrid Coiler Station Wagon
3) 1980 Military Pickup
4) 1988 Range Rover
5) 1995 Defender 90, ST
6) 1995 Discovery
7) 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB

Calling all COLUMBIA, ELLICOTT CITY, ANNAPOLIS, VIRGINIA ROVERS!

COME ON! Someone else must want to come. I actually thought that this post would get a lot of responses - because there have been several times that I remember where the Columbia/Ellicott City area people wanted to get together in the past!

The Northern VA people seem really good at getting together. We all need to get to know each other out here (and maybe pull in some of the VA people for the lunch too).

Did I post it too soon for people to commit, or is everyone really busy that day???.........I would love to start meeting everyone out here. Hopefully we get some more by then.........

What about DC?

Seriously, I have no idea where Dicks Sporting goods is or why we are meeting in that parking lot? Sounds cool but just trying to figure out what is the deal? Does Gary work at Dick's? Can we bring frosty beverages? Is there somewhere we can go with grass and dirt? I remember Gary's old place, that would have been great for a little get-together.

Just thinking out loud, also June 29th is kind of a ways off, hard to say what is going on that particular day. So don't be too put off by lack of response. Perhaps send out a reminder a few weeks in advance?

Us VA people are just too cool for you Marylanders, although we tolerate you coming here.

Just kidding. Not sure about the date yet, but throw in some grass instead of tarmac and it sounds like fun.

I will just be getting back in town from a week in wyoming. I'll try to make it. If my rover is done by then I'll bring it up. It's undergoing a little surgery at the moment.

Tell Gary that Dan from down in southern maryland says hi. If that doesn't ring a bell for him mention that he sees me every year at "Anne Marie Gardens Arts Fest"

BTW, I'll second what Dave said. What's up the Dicks sporting goods parking lot? They got a beer stand out there or what?

Okay, it sounds like maybe a change in venue may be worth considering. June 29th is a ways out, but I will put it on my calendar, and make it out if I can..

Hey all,

You are all right about Dicks Sporting Goods.......Does sound kind of lame. But at least it is a place.

We looked into to parks and places. Parks charged too much for Pavilions (and I really did not know if enough people would come - especially if I asked for money), and we were not sure we could get a place that we could all park together......

Here is why it is/was going to be in a parking lot. I told him that the Columbia/Ellicott People had tried to get together several times - and it never quite happened. Matter of fact - if I remember the past threads - no one took the lead and came up with a place.

UNLIKE the DC and VA group!!!! Who seem to meet like every week.......

Gary wanted a simple get together to try first, for us to get to know each other.
1) For this reason he wanted this first meeting not to be a lot of driving (for the event or getting to lunch).
2)He wanted us all to be able to park our trucks together.
3)He wanted something very easy for people to find (it is like 5 minutes off I-95). We would get together and chat (in a part of the parking lot that is meant for Christmas overflow).
4) Then we would all leave our trucks together - and walk a couple hundred feet to Famous Dave's for BBQ and Beer.

He thought he could look at anyone's truck that need an problem looked at, and then we could plan a BETTER get together for future meetings when we were all at lunch. I thought it might work.............I thought as lame as it sounded we might get a bunch of trucks show up and have a good time.

If anyone has a great suggestion of how to change things or a perfect place, thats fine.

I just would love us all to get together.......

My kids will be living with me for a month @ that point. Count me in but will probably show up less than an hour before lunch and leave shortly after since their attention spans are even shorter than mine.
Pick a park with grass and shade and that all changes.

Where are all you guys from Columbia or Ellicott City?

I see you post on this board all the time. We have tried to get other events in this area together before. I know you are out there........I want to meet all the local Howard County people too!

If all these other people will drive from much longer distances to come to the lunch, the least we could all do is stop by when it is in our back yard
