I'll be there. As for my rover, well... If it's done it will be there too. Early Ser IIa 109 five door, hopefully with a running diesel conversion. If it's not running I may put it on the trailer and bring it up anyway.

Looks like I"m out, unfortunately. I"ll be diving in Grand Cayman then. But don't feel badly for me, I'll muscle through it.

That's right, even if I have to push my rover there you'll have to show.

Somebody had made mention that they'd prefer to meet in a more natural setting with grass and dirt...Patapsco Valley State Park is nearby if folks wanted to meet there first and then head-off caravan style to Famous Dave's for lunch...just a thought.

MOST IMPORTANT THING - we have to make this first Howard County get together simple enough that people can actually find it and come.........That said......

A caravan would be cool. Patapsco Valley State Park is cool. There are several entrances to it. But do you think we could pick one and all park together? It would be cool to hang around all the trucks and talk a bit before lunch..........

I don't know all the parking lots that well - or which one you were thinking of. Or how about the pavillion parking lot at Rockburn state park?

I am just afraid of some of the people that are coming from far - not finding it, or missing the caravan......

There are 17 of us so far....what do people want to try? Flagg

Here is the current list:

1) 1951 Series I, 80
2) 1960 109 (or 1991 Range Rover - Ren Ching)
3) 1966 Series II, 109 Hybrid Coiler Station Wagon
4) 196? Serries IIa, 109 Diesel (Slorocco)
5) 1980 Military Pickup
6) 1983 Defender 110 Diesel CSW (Maryland 110)
7) 1988 Range Rover
8) 1995 Defender 90, ST (Flagg)
9) 1995 Defender 90 (Rvrchuck)
10) 1995 Defender 90 (Jeepeytr)
11) 1995 Defender 90 (Jeepeytr)
12) 1995 Discovery
13) 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB
14) 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB (Emerson00)
15) 1997 Defender 90, ST (Mjekogian)
16) 1997 Degender 90, ST (ABRover)
17) 1998 Discovery (Ray G)

There are a couple of spots, like the entrance off of Rt 40...but the one I was thinking about is right near the 195/Rt 1 interchange. I agree that It is tucked back a little bit, but it isn't incredibly hard to find. I forget the name of the specific area, but I think it's Avalon. It's convenient to 295/95/895/695. It has pavallions and is near the river...and most importantly - a good sized parking lot. (Somebody more familiar with the park - feel free to chime in)

Here's the long/lat - 39.227179,-76.725286

http://maps.google.com/maps?num=100&...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

There may be some other spots within the park that may be closer to dave's famous/easier to get to.

http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan...scovalley.html

Perhaps the ranger station may be able to suggest a place/proximity that would be easy for everyone and can accomodate 20+/- vehicles.

Follow-up Post:

Yep, Avalon is the name of the spot...here it is:

http://www.dnr.state.md.us/outdoorad...valontour.html

$2 entrance fee.

Chuck - I have looked into that spot on the interentet. The satilite view shows a parking lot. It looks as if you take you get on route 1, then River road, then Rockburn hill road - then the parking lot? I have not been there - but if you think we could all park together in the parking lot to meet - I think it is a good option...........I will take your word for it.

-------------------------------------------------

We could then caravan to Famous Dave's - or pick another place to eat. If we are caravanning, it does not seem to matter. Here is a nice place for Lunch that is not to far, where the roads would be more scenic then a strip center. Dimitris resturant is family owned, not a chain, and has some great food at reasonable prices. I could call and make reservations as we get closer. I know they take larger parties - my sons baptism lunch was there, and we have had some birthday gatherings there. I could also plan a nice drive to it that was only 15-20 minutes. Check it out:
http://www.dimitris.us/catonsville_b...baltimore.html

So let us vote on it - and see who chimes in with an opinion. Right now there are 17 trucks in:

OPTION 1:
- Meet at the parking lot outside of dicks starting at 10:30.
- Walk to famous Dave's BBQ for lunch at 12:30 +/-

OPTION 2:
- Meet at Avalon parking lot off route 1 at 10:30 ($2 admission)
- Caravan lines up at 12:15 and leaves at 12:30 +/-
- Take some more scenic roads to Dimitris resturant in Ellicott City for lunch (back parking lot should handle us)

If coming down 195 towards BWI, you'll exit at Route 1 and head south. You'll go maybe 150 feet and you'll turn right on South Street. You'll immediately turn left into the park at about 100 feet. You can't miss the signage.

Here's the intersection:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=16&iwloc=addr

And yes, the parking area is certainly sufficient to handle 20+ trucks.

Chuck,

I like the idea of changing the event to OPTION #2 and meeting at your suggested parking lot.

I am afraid to make the change - because it is not apparent that anyone else but 'us' is checking this thread. I would hate to have everyone spit up and in different places. Should this be the next event????

OR - PEOPLE SHOULD START POSTING..........Flagg

Yeah...I hear you...I think it is more important to meet. Not my event, just a suggestion...I'll be there either way.

I'll just meet you guys at Dimitris. I don't see the point in paying $2 to stand around in a park parking lot-

But I don't have kids to entertain, and I hold no grudges on those of you that do.
