Dan (ini88) made it down the first part of the drop... had the rear wheels come off the ground when going down though... we actually thought we were stuck after we dropped in, but he decided to hit the gas, and low and behold he just drove out of it... he got the front tires through the end of it, but the rears got caught up... he probably could have gotten it if he tried another run at it, but we winched him out to get out of the way for other people to try.

Yeah that me you just added, and I'd love them! charles at galpin dot org

My following 2 runs at it were one shot up and over and I think were far lighter on the skinny pedal because of it.

Sorry I didn't see you there. We need to have a d-90 meetup at the next event. I didn't even see you or Randy, and probably many others.

Don't like to sound too boastful but I made it all the way through 4e without winching. Nobody was more surprised than me.

Follow-up Post:

I never made it through 1D without winching at least twice and I tried 3 times. The 3rd time I got so badly stuck I broke my winch line. I saw charles make it without any winching.

Yes that was it. My winch line broke and he got a flat. After you abandoned us it took about another hour or so to get out. If you had stayed it would have been much quicker. You should be feeling pretty guilty about it right now :-)

aww shit, i should've known. we'd already been there over 2 hours helping a truck in front of us get out and getting my truck through that mess, so we were itching to get back to camp. justin and i really thought once the 90 was running again, you would get out in a few minutes, drag his ass through and be back in no time. sorry about that.

Damn that harsh!

I'll take the heat. I had a friend waiting at rally control who had come down for the day, and as Robbie said we were running way late on our "quick warmup run" so I was the one pushing to head back ASAP.

Strangely not feeling very guilty though...

Thanks so much to all who came out. If we can work things out to return we will be putting in time to expand the medium trails and create more of a balance between the scenic and the scary.

New to getting dirty

This was my first time out with the D-90 in anything more than a dirt road. And I have got to say WOW! This is fun! Now I am thinking how do I start to build up the truck up( just a little)? THanks Charles, Ron, Doug, Loic, and everyone else who pointed me in the right direction, and sometimes the wrong, but it was fun ether way! I definitely have the bug. I am also amazed at what the defender can do as a stock truck. My son had a great time too he hasn't stopped talking about the trip.

Looks like everyone had a great time!
I feel bad for the black d90 that rolled. At least no one was seriously hurt.
I wish I could of made the trip. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Mike it was good to meet you as well. For a first timer you did very well. Hope to see some of those 600 photo's soon.

The 110 makes me look good- too bad you didn't catch the disco behind me come through wide open, go 60 feet up the hill, and slam into the back of the parked 110 still bouncing off the rev limiter. Still having nightmares about that.

That was a bit scary to watch. Did he hurt anything?

Galen,
No worries. Felt bad as I backed up and saw how the bank had crunched your fender and bumper as you came out of the hole. Hopefully my field body work with the tow strap kept the body off the tire for the rest of the weekend.

That was all it needed. Pushed the fender back in place and all was well. It isn't the first time that bumper end has been bent back into the fender.

Oddly enough, no. Had to have been going 15-20 mph when he hit, but no one was in my truck, and the soft sidewalls on mud and the fact that he went brush bar into the spare tire sidewall seem to have taken the majority of the impact. Had I been aired up and on firm ground the truck wouldn't have slid 16 inches and things would have sucked. That was like a bad dream-with sound effects.

First thing I did when I got back was go online and find a Master Pull 1 inch x 30 ft kinetic rope (33,500 lbs breaking strength). Have every other piece of recovery gear in triplicate but after watching the kinetics @ work had to have one. Found a place in Nj that had em $110 shipped.

So true. I was impressed when I was yanked out by one that Ray had.
