Land Rover Darien - Overland Experts

Went out with Land Rover of Darien to Overland Experts facility in East Haddam, CT. Fun day of running hills, doing a bit of technical stuff, and then a loop around the property. Highlight of the day was Mike from LRD finding the bottom of a mudhole in a Range Rover Sport.

Looks like a great day... When I went on the LR Dealer event a few years ago, I brought my 97 SW, instead of my RR, and they were not happy. I had a lot of people come over and check it out.

It's nice to see a 110 helping out the Sport!

When does this happen? Do you have to be a modern rover owner to participate?

Dealerships usually have these a few times per year to "introduce" their new customers to what the newly purchased vehicles can do.

Sadly, there's always someone like that dude above who probably thinks.... "Hhhmmmm... If that old looking land rover can do it, surely my ultra luxurious Range rover can do it too..."

The people from LR of Darien couldn't have been more gracious. They all loved the 110 and didn't care that I left the Range Rover at home for the day. It was a total blast.

The helping hand was the Overland Expert's 130. Great bunch of guys as well.

They run it twice a year. They do all the work on my Range Rover and I saw an email blast from them about the event and signed up. No clue how broad the audience is.

It's a good promo event and I will say I was very impressed by how well a stock LR4 with year round tires could climb a hill. Good PR.

It was what turned out to be a successful attempt to latch the winch onto the recovery point without getting completely soaked.

The mud on the right side of the hole was pretty deep. I stayed left and made it through no problem.

Would have been funny as hell if he dove in and sent a wave of water into the trunk space lol

The truck never stopped running and once he was out, he ran the rest of the loop no problem. Think pride was thing most damaged but Mike took it in very good spirits.

I believe locals refer to the low point on the Merritt Parkway without cellphone reception as Darien's gap.

Our dealer has a couple of these events a year...they love it when I bring the D90. If they have one or two on the lot...they bring them and show them off too.

The sales staff at LRD would love to have the opportunity to sell new Defenders and have been banging the drum at Land Rover for years.

Did something like this a couple years ago with Trevor and a few others for Land Rover Harrisburg up at Rausch Creek. Was fun seeing a 90, lifted Disco and lifted RRC leading the groups.
