If one was going to New Zealand.

Say August - September'ish part of the calendar year.
What is there to see and do?
Anything rover specific?
Junkyards, auto jumbles, antique stores or open air markets?
Sights or things to do?

It's a big place. Where specifically are you going?

I'd take at least 2 weeks, but you could spend months. I think in 2 weeks you could see a good part of the North or South Island, but to fit both in you're not doing it justice.
Making a road trip from Auckland to Wellington is a good way to see lots of the North Island.

Christchurch is a good place to start at for the South Island, from there you can make a big loop. You can nerd it out like we did and hit up all the LOTR spots. Drive down the West coast is nice, Franz Josef is a cool spot with the glaciers. Te Anau and the tours of the sounds are cool. Doing the Abel-Tasman hike is also pretty cool. Nelson area and the vineyards are good. Wanaka/Queenstown are cool. Mt. Cook and it's trails are cool. Lake Tekapo is a nice little spot. We lived by Dunedin and it had a number of breweries. Some of our favs were:
Fleur's place
Premium Craft Beer | Emerson's Brewery Dunedin
Home Page of
Velvet Burger - Burgers, Beers & Great Times - New Zealand
SnakeBite Brewery & Restarurant Franz Josef Glacier

We spent our honeymoon there for 2 weeks in 2002 ... it was absolutely amazing--I'd hit both North and South Island taking short flights between cities-we started in Bay of Russell which is a really cool fishing village, great area to charter fish...we then went to Auckland which was awesome, but not terribly different than any other sizable city in the states--happened to be there during the America's Cup. South Island highlights are Abel Tasman national park, Christchurch, Marlborough wine region(known for sauvignon blanc) and best place of all, Queenstown--adventure capital of the world. This place has the craziest adventure/extreme sports and awesome Land Rover driving trails -- my love for LRs was solidified in this country (see below!)

I loved NZ. spent 3 weeks.. not nearly long enough.
Remember that august september is winter there, so think winter activities, though the north island gets more tropical so I couldn't say what that looks like. We went in november and it was early summer weather. Avery nice break form the canadian winter

Airbornrover and I are going there on our honeymoon. We're spending two weeks on the North Island, traveling from Auckland down to Wellington. We have lots planned (sheep selfies, of course!), but we would definitely like to know about any off-the-beaten-path/rover stuff we should see.

Anymore tips? Auto club events or swap meet types? Antique salvage shops or stores? Getting on plane shortly.
