Hello all. I'm new to the board, but would love to meet up with you all. I'm in Oakton. Where and when do you all meet, and do you welcome fresh blood?

We meet at Jays in N. Arlington

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...8&ie=UTF8&om=1

I am not sure if there is a regular date as I have only gone twice, but the next one is this coming Tuesday around 7 or 7:30 iirc.

Fresh blood is always welcome.

Great, Thanks for the reply. I will see if I can make it, provided I'm in town Tuesday!

Virginia Emissions

sorry for pirating the string we've got going here; but, i thought someone may know and someone my benefit.

i drive a 97 and took it in to the local GY shop for emissions testing friday. because the check engine light was on they said this is an automatic failure in va. so i was pressured to have them hook it up to a meter and start bending over. a few codes came back all "misfire" all in the 300-range.

i bought this truck from a guy that took better care of it than i do my own kids, so i was surprized to find that the wires were toast and the plugs used were champs. this guy i bouhg the truck from had the 30k services done at 20k and the 60k done at 40k just before i ought it last year all at LR-Peabody, MA.

after i replaced the wires and plugs this weekend i took her back in and they reset the light and did the emissions test and i got out of there. but, when pulling away from the shop i gunned it a little to force it into overdrive and the light came back on. this is somewhat what happend to trip the orignial eng light. i had just put a can of BG44K in the tank and while forcing into overdrive the light came on. i figured it was due to come carbon build-up and hoped it would eventually pass.

the guys at the shop are somewhat cool so i took it back hooked it up and now im getting a code that indicates the coil is damaged. the shop manager says that running bad wires has damaged the coil.

any opinions?

any experience with the silly emissions rule?

i used to have a 94 and when the eng light came on i'd check/fix the normal stuff and unhook the battery to reset it. can't do that with a 97.

Clay,

I am thinking about going. Maybe for one day and one night. Are you planning on going?

My only concern is I don't want to break anything 2 weeks before the MAR.

Greg.

Will most likely be going with my local off road club. Ya'll should think about joining - we could use a few more defenders.

I'm running the car show at the VA scottish Games in Alexandria that Saturday. We can always use more rovers there if anyone's interested . . . and you can avoid breaking your junk right before the middy!

Greg, I hear ya; as we know Sunday's there are a bit intimidating. Those trails can do some damage and nothing's less than a 7 on Sundays.

Anthony,

I am finally free from work and starting to get out and see the area. It only took nine months....

In any event, it would be great to finally meet you. Where is the event on Saturday? I might be able to make it.

Michael

It's next Saturday (16th) at Ft. Ward Park in Alexandria -- www.vascottishgames.org. Should have a pretty good turnout, let me know if you can make it, would love to see the truck there.

Anthony,

I can't believe my luck. I thought the event was THIS Saturday, as in the day after tomorrow. Unfortunately, on the 16th I will be back in LA. My timing is terrible. Sorry for the mix up. I guess I will just have to keep lurking until I pick up on something everyone in this part of the state is going to... Maybe the next Happy Hour.

By the way, how often do you get out to the trails? Are there any decent places close?

Michael
