Feb 28th event in Oregon

This came across the PCRC (www.pcrc.net) mailing list, thought it might be worth sharing. I'm not sure if you have to be a PCRC member to attend. Send your questions to the organizer listed at the bottom:

I tried to add this to the calendar, but that must be an "admin only" feature.

Hello All,

The 4th annual Rover All Over Rally is set for Saturday February 28th. The start time for the first rig will be 0930 hrs from the Rainer City park in Rainier Oregon (right across the Columbia River from Longview Washington). Rainier is about 30-60 minutes from the Portland area, depending on where you live) and about 2.5 hrs from Seattle.

The Rally is designed as a non-damaging event and is more a test of your mental skills and road awareness. There will be 3 legs to the Rally. A gimmick section (uses riddles, odd descriptions, descriptive clues) as your directions to the first checkpoint.
Then a time and distance section where you are timed to travel over a section of roads and you score points for being closest to the actual time used by the dastardly Rallymaster in laying out the route. Then the final section will be a tulip chart section traversing some back country roads and trails which will get your truck good and dirty. From Rainer the general direction of the Rally will be in a northwesterly southeasterly direction to the finish line at an undisclosed destination.

Added to all of this are 3 written trivia tests (encompassing both Land Rover and General Knowledge Trivia) which all rigs can score bonus points with for the final rankings and prizes. Yes, that is right, there are prizes again for the winners and no entry fee. Such a deal !!

All trucks should have a driver (required) and at least one navigator (optional). However in the past there have been trucks with several navigators on board. In one case there was a dog who was the navigator and his rig placed 6th overall. So there is something for everyone on this event so if you are interested please let me know at the contact info below. If you have a GPS you are welcome to use it. Also, the rally master and his helpers will be monitoring CB Channel 5 and Ham channel 146.500 on simplex.

The rally will last about 5 hrs in total and end up at an establishment serving burgers or pizza and grog for the calculation of the scores and presentation of the prizes..

A point to note, is that it makes no difference if you are skilled and experienced from past Rally driving/navigation. The points are awarded based on the best average score for each leg by the entire group participating and then points given based on who is closest to that average time. So being fastest and first all the time probably will not get you in the money at the end. And the Trivia tests have proven to be a great equalizer for all in attendance.

You don't have to have a big modern machine to compete and win. 3 of the last 4 overall winners have all driven various Series machines and the 4th was a D-90.

Kids are welcome to come along with spouses, friends etc. The entire event is designed so that everyone in each rig will have some fun competing and helping to score points for their truck.

Bring some goodies to munch on while underway and any non-alcoholic beverages to drink. Any rigs found with open alcoholic containers on board will be asked to leave immediately, no exceptions. Also, any dangerous driving, speeding etc., will not be tolerated and suspension from the event immediately will be the result. At no time is it necessary to travel in excess of any posted speed limits, nor drive in a dangerous manner.
