Well, bummer.

I'd like to do both but I'll end up at MAR this year.

This from a guy who has been to expo and never to a MAR.
Given that it does not appear there will be a Conclave event this year it really sucks that Hanson decided on the same weekend. Instead of three fall events in the Mid Atlantic, you get to choose one.

Whoa...hold on...there will be jerry-cans??

I have one.
It's in mint condition.
It just needs a good claybar/wax/buffing.

Decisions...decisions....

So Lucky8/Gus are definitely out?
The first few years of the Cove weren't sponsored by anyone-Chapman and Porterfield hosted it as an anti-MAR.
I'm sure if there was enough interest it could be done again.

No Conclave this year? I must have missed that.

It is a bummer about the conflict of dates. (I think I would like to go and see what the Expo is all about, too.)

I think Roav and Expo have all spoken and will make a better job of it next year. I think Newman has the right idea on how to do both.

Whoever goes to EXPO - please take and post pictures. (I have never seen a polished and waxed jerry can before <wink> )

Isn't there a Jerry-Can Concours event at Expo? A Show-n-Shine of sorts?

Having never been to expo and having never missed a MAR, am going to expo.
It will be a new experience.
Then in 2015 back to MAR.

I'll be going to Expo with my cameras and one of my two German Eriba travel trailers.

It sucks that its the same weekend as MAR but I've never been to Expo so I want to check it out.
Besides Rick has promised Chicken & Dumplings again....

Jerry can collecting is for amateurs - try obscure German travel trailers for a real collecting challenge....

Poseur's have empty jerry can's on their mall crawler rigs. Many even wax them I'm told. Gustavo's were always awfully shiney (and empty).

I'm that guy. I've got two empty cans on my roof from the Expo trip. That reminds me, I've got to wax them.

I never keep mine full of diesel unless I need the range, but I always have them. Not smart to keep the weight without a good reason. But mine need paint.

None of the good stuff is legaly available anymore thanks to California's Air Resources Board aka CARB legal fuel cans.

The best IMO are the Scepter MFC's but if you are into polishing them you are out of luck, they aren't metal.

Thanks Doug. They look almost like the real thing. I see the metal ones for sale on ebay..they are illegal? Too bad..I will get one anyway because I like them. Still don't understand what the deal is about 'polishing' though? The events being at the same time stinks. I am going to try and get to both if I can. Hopefully next year will be different.

If you meant scepter's almost look like the real thing, that's because they are the real thing. Absent a desire to recreate LRDG and use 'captured' jerry cans from zee Germans you don't get more authentic than those. Plus I'd say they are both more durable and easier to use than metal. Form follows function though, so no polish or wax
