Cool. Not familiar with it, if that is the case I'll just follow Uncle Douglas out of expo and on to MAR event and trails.

Mar on Friday afternoon or uwharrie... are the choices.. If uwharrie then someone needs to check on a group camp spot or steak out a trail spot. Easier to head to Mar

Yes - The Rover Owners Association of Virginia (ROAV) (roav) will be hosting the annual Mid Atlantic Rally (MAR) that very same weekend. The MAR will be located in Southwestern. VA - near Blacksburg or Virginia Tech.

There will definitely be an opportunity to get your tires muddy at MAR .... and sit around a camp fire and drink what ever it is that you put in your cup.

Keep an eye on the ROAV.ORG web site as there may be a deal that links these two events. No promises but last year we ran a special in MAR pricing if you came from the EXPO.

Last MAR I attended was GUIDED TRAIL rides ONLY.
IT SUCKED!
Reminded me of Oak Ridge except the guides were people I've known for 20+ years.
I wanted to say, really I'd rather be at the Expo than waiting in line on a trail ride that is guided that takes all day for something that should be just under 1.5 hours.
It was absolutely terrible and once you are "guided", you're captive audience with no escaping to do anything on your own, much less get back to camp.
Imagine leaving part of your party or children behind for what was explained to be a quick ride, then you get back 7 hours later!
Does anyone want to pay to attend that epic failure scenario?
There were people I wanted to spend time with, but had to forego because I was guided out of available time!
If I were going, would ask for a trail ride schedule before going on any guided outings.
Then I would ask what happens when the trail ride starts taking 3 or 4 times longer than the scheduled time.
Don't get stuck out there like I did.
It was painful.

I remember that weekend but your pain had quite a bit more to do with a transmission that wouldn't shift and a truck that was going a max 45 mph in a 65mph zone. I almost drove over top of you on one grade on 460. Seems like you have some transference issues, or just issues.

Shifting from 2nd to 5th was terrible especially on those steep inclines.
That and being in Dave's 90 all day without anything to drink, but one bottle of water and 2 beers I had to fight for definitely effected my tolerance levels down to a short fuse (no pun intended Fireman Short).

It was really good to see Matt Moran even though he was eventually in one wheel drive.

I did join the group out there for dinner that was a good time.

Spent the rest of my time rolling the Discovery with Justin from Lucky8.

Was Steve Young there with a hand gun to shoot you if you turned back to camp?

No, but I think the gated MAR trail openings are unloacked to let people in or out and then immediately locked shut again, so you are stuck inside until a guide unlocks the gate.
Steve Young has been out of the VA/NC Land Rover scene for at least 10 years.

Lets not confuse Steve Young with Shayne Young.
They are 2 distinctly different people.
I don't think Shayne has ever been to MAR and don't think Steve has ever been to Overland Expo.
Steve drove a Freelander and Shayne a 110.
Shayne was at Expo East last year and is a first class stand up guy originally from OZ.

Gone but not forgotten...nor is that bloody kid of his who was with me and my family on the trail...they all still remember the little turd, singing Green Day songs the whole time on the trail - he nearly didn't make it.
