Dormobile shakedown

I've been posting in the tech section about other issues with my truck and a few people have been interested in the Dormobile conversion. I thought I'd post a few photos from my second shakedown camping trip since the conversion was done. The campground is Salt Point State Park on the coast in Northern California. The stove/sink unit is the last of Dormobile's repro units. I haven't yet installed a stove, gas, or a gray water tank. Enjoy!

Very very very nice.
Some more detailed photos under better lighting would be nice when you have time, but it looks good.

Have questions about the seats and we have a IIA Dormobile top here that we want to use on a 110 5 door. We have a spare 110 top to cut and transfer the pop-top.

Plans so far: Am going to do a side room that folds out and attaches awning style with an aluminum shelf that attaches to the side and holds a sink that drains into a container or bucket you can dump via a hose from the sink drain. The shelf will hold a camp chef oven with 2 top burners and a plastic cutting board. Below the shelf will hang a canvas cupboards you can put things into and above will a small upper shelf that has hooks on the bottom for hanging cups and utensils. The shelf assembly will fit together in a canvas bag and then fit on the small front Roof Rack.

The Ironman 50L fridge and oven - stove will go in the back when camping and can be removed when not needed. There will be the usual 12V LED lights that run off a deep cycle battery with a split charger relay. Already have the aluminum side water tank ready and a heat exchanger for a hot shower.

The tricky part will be to have the awning detach and some legs for the shelf so you can drive away, do some trails and pull back into your camp. We haven't worked this part out yet, but want to finish the design soon.

Could you PM me with your number to chat about the top and seats?

rdavis: Sorry about the poor quality photos. I only had my cell phone camera and we parked in the shadiest spot since it was in the 80's all weekend. Let me know what specifics you'd like to see and I'll take some better photos with my real camera. I really like your idea for a separated cooking area. Interior space is definitely at a premium in a 5-door with the middle row seats installed and all your camping gear. I could make a bit more space if we did a trip without the baby (and car seat) since those middle seats all fold forward, but obviously nothing could be permanently mounted without losing a seat. I'll PM you with my contact info if you want to know more about the project.

As requested, here are some pics of the Dormobile taken with a real camera. This was the same trip, which was also my daughter's first camping trip (see last photo).

Very very nice!
Who's holding who in the circle of life on the base camp vehicle?
Nice smiles all around including the CA sun peaking through in the background...
Thanks for the pictures.

Very nice photos...wonder how that pop up would hold in the winter months? How water proof is it?

The soft part of the top is some type of thick vinyl material, so it should be completely waterproof on its own. That material is riveted to the inner frame, so that would be a potential area for leaks, as well as the borders where the soft top fastens to the normal roof. All of these areas are sealed with silicone per Dormobile's instructions. With that said, only time will tell. I do plan to try it out in the rain.
