Oak Ridge is a lot of rocks when it is dry and a lot of mud when it is wet. It is hard to see all of the trails in two days when you have a large group. That is why they have started to limit the number of registrations, 175 for this event. They sold out on the event earlier this year at 200 trucks. The guys at Tidewater are the group that manage the trails, Mainly Chris. That is for the wheeling portion. They have several scrambles and horse events as well. The big concert is going to be there this year on Sept. 5-8. If you haven't been to oak Ridge it is a lot of fun but be prepared to be on the trails all day.

Va4wda...

We'll have to make some of the VA4WDA events.
There was one a stone's throw in Suffolk a while back that we missed, but have met a few members in passing that were pretty nice.

Well we are looking forward to Conclave 2013.

Just figured I'd see if there are any updates since it's been pretty quiet here regarding the subject of Conclave, but here's the good info. I also added it to the Events Calendar.

The Cove Campground will collect a $25.00 flat fee for each trail vehicle plus camping fees
3 nights camping is $60 per adult
2 nights camping is $50 per adult
kids under 12 are $25 for 2 or 3 days camping.
An example of total cost.
A single person arriving on Thursday and departing on Sunday will pay a total of $80.00 + $60 + 25 = $165
Yes we managed to do it a little cheaper this year thanks to Rick Newman.
Passengers are $20 extra and they also receive dinner and a raffle ticket
Kids 12 and under will receive a dinner ticket from Lucky8
You will only be charged the camping fee for the nights you stay so those arriving later will pay less for camping. This will be a 4-day, 3 night event, starting on Thursday September 19th
Children under 2 are free.

In case you have been living under a rock and never heard of conclave here's last years official video.

Registration opening soon.

Some pretty crazy stuff posted in the first couple of pages of this thread. Not the kind of stuff that would attract new participants to the event.
Not that my truck is going to be ready in time......

That bad press was a single isolated incident that ended up being blown way out of proportion and should never ever happen again...
.
The event was great and we had a group with 5 children that all had wonderful times.
We are going back and will not miss this event.

I was in charge of the largest MAR that has ever been held and believe me, should know a good event when I attend one... the Conclave is not to be missed.

That's the plan. But, I don't think it will be ready.

I hurt my back last week and couldn't do the wiring as planned.

Looking forward to it! Is the camping going to be organized with a family area?

They tried to organize it a little last year - keep rowdies in one area was the basic idea (it worked) - but it is really a scramble to get a spot - which of course there are lots!! The camping setup at the cove is really not conducive to a large event, people actually get in small groups and kind of stay that way...a lot of folks (as they did last year) just wander from cam to camp - which is fun for visiting and mooching good grub and beer!!!

We had a neat spot, and folks brought kids to our area - which was fine, but you are much better off finding a more isolated spot....which there are lots of...so you can have the kiddies crash and get sleep.

However, that said I think they are probably a little more "learned" this year - and may just ID a spot as "Kiddie Kamp"...which would be nice.

I would suggest Camp IV as a good one for a quiet family/kid friendly camp. It's a bit separated from the rest and off the beaten path. The Cove actually works real well for large events just not for large group camps.

The largest group camp area was not available to us last year and that is Camp 6 down by the mud pit.

Camps 1 and 4 will be "family" camps. If you want to howl all night...camp 5. Camps 2 and 3 will be mixed use.

You guys are overlooking the best family spot...

Just as you pull in there is a large grassy area to the right before you get to and within walking distance of the Cove Management Cabin (for lack of a better term). There are a few good flat spots and these sites have electricity and water as well. It's a short walk to the bathrooms and far enough away to stay isolated.

The rest of the camp sites were hard and rocky and sometimes over camped with vehicles and people who all want a fire that smokes you out when the wind changes in your direction which is annoying.

That is Camp 1. Camp 4 is also nice but since it's tucked away a lot of people never even make it back there. It's a short easy drive from the registration area.
