36 hours in my new 90

I could probably write you guys a small novel based on the 36 hour trek from Birmingham to LA in my new 90. However, it's the 4th, I feel like a beer and so I'm just going to stick to the cliff notes version.

I've never been in a 90 before this trip. Here are just some thoughts.
-This car is so quirky (like me, I love it). Turning the key is backwards, the dash feels like it was designed in 20 minutes by some drunk Brits, filling it full of gas makes it leak, when it rains... it rains on my feet, it's like a rock concert with the dash...all the needles on the gauges bounce all over the place.
-It drives like a Rhino, but is nimble like a cheetah.
-It drives so much better than I imagined, it's super solid.
-if one more person calls it a Jeep i am going to tie them to the back and drive (like Chevy Chase did to that dog in the movie Vacation)
-It's fun to wave to all the Disco guys on the road.
-I didn't push the car at all, I let it drive me. If it didn't want to go 65 or 70 I didn't floor it or push it to. I took the northern route because I didn't want to drive through 110 degree heat and never once put the AC on. I would rather sweat it out than put that kind of stress on the car.
-On the highway the car wants to pull off the road and go through the grass into the brush (or maybe that's just me) and I wanted to let it...infact I did. It's the trucks DNA, who am I to deprive it of it's birthright
-When it rained it rained through the dash on my feet and the tachometer went out.
-40 miles from home the Check Engine light went on.

All in all this car is 2 things: 1. it's going to be a money pit. 2. It's a fucking dream on wheels, I love it so much more than the 2010 Mercedes GLK I sold on lease trader to get it. It drives great (when it's driving) and I can't wait to try and get it stuck in the mud.

Welcome to the club. You pretty much hit the Land Rover love hate relationship on the head. Glad you realize now it will be a money pit!

Really nice pics. Unlike your Mercedes which loses $5k every year in depreciation, this will keep its value ( you just have to top it up with $5k investment every year ).

Nice! Congratulations ... If it made a 36hr drive with only spilling some gas and leaking rain on your feet ... I'd say you've got a great truck!

Cool pics. We'll have to have an LA happy hour soon.

Leak in the dash is probably from the vent seals. That's a pretty easy fix.

I like the guys at Red Mountain, they're real cool. I will probably be looking to get a 90 from them or Adventure Motorcars (Land Rovers For Sale) before next summer... hopefully.

Did you ever figure out why the tach failed? I just drove mine home to VA from TX and had the same thing.

I know this is an old thread and wasn't bumped for a tach question, but that story was pretty good and makes me hope I find an NAS 90 a few hours away - but not so far that I put a ton of miles on it right out of the box, but enough to enjoy the ride.
