Rob Lynch's alternator froze on the way back from a trail ride so we cut the frayed belt with a knife so he could keep driving.

This must have been the install of the replacement alternator, unless other work was required.

I have to give props to Jonesey and all that Snow Peak gear he brought I know a lot of people make fun of it but that shit works and he (and Kraig) pulled some great meals out of that tent under some pretty crappy conditions.

Cheers!

I broke down otw with a bad alternator in the beautiful small town of Mt Pleasant, Tx on early Friday afternoon. A couple friends tried to track me one down and bring it to me but no luck. I have to admit it really was one of the most fun vehicle break downs Iíve ever had. I had hopped off the interstate and onto a county road because I saw some upcoming traffic, went about a mile and lost power. Just as I was...Ďcrap, itís the alternatorí a truck pulls over. Guy with beard hops out wearing mechanic clothes and says his shop is just down the road but he also has a buddy with a shop even closer, he pulls me a 10th of a mile and I met him. Four of us all jump on the phone making calls, they were amazing. No luck finding an alternator in middle of nowhere on a late Friday afternoon, but there is an alternator shop. A customer of the shop shows up (rebuilding an International PU) He offers to drive me there. Rover shop in Dallas talks to the alternator guy, no luck. Everyone says 2-4 days delivery. A local AutoZone says they can get one and itíll be there the next morning...Iím seeing MAR and EE slowly slip away Lol. I get a couple of offers to stay on couches and decide on the fellow with twin toddlers at the house and a hankering for classic cars.

I had a blast hanging with him and his friends and family. Early next morning we head to the parts house to pick up the alternator. Wrong one. I should have known it was going to be bad when the telephone conversation went:

me: Itís for a Range Rover w/a 4.2
him: A Rendezvous ...thatís a Buick right?
me: No. A Range Rover Classic ...A Land Rover
him: A Range Rover Land Rover? Who makes that?
me: Land Rover

Two of his buddies magically show up at the AutoZone and of course everyone knows everyone and are trying to help me get back on the road. I didnít say much...just stood back and couldnít help but grin, while 5 guys stare at the alternators, point and turn them all around and talk of breaking them apart to make it work. A few of us take my alternator and the new wrong one back to his house/shop and while they plot I get online and figure out that a D1 of the same year range but for a 3.9 is the same. I'm sure some of you knew that already.... so I call OíReillyís and they can get me one later on that night.

We go get a maf sensor for one of his trucks and then back to his house to light the grill. Another stranded but fun day. His extended family show up and we watched football and ate. I was offered some dangerously smooth moonshine but declined (had to drive later) Time to go get the right alternator and put it back in my truck. Everyone agrees that even though I didnít make the eventsÖ we have all made ourselves some new, great friends. They wanted me to stay another night to give my truck a good once over during day light, but I assured them it and I would be fine. Super sweet people. As promised I called or txt once I got home. Huge massive big props to the car folks of Mt. Pleasant!!

Iím glad all of yíall had a good time and I missed seeing my friends in the east.. but itís really, really hard for me to complain when I had the best possible experience under the circumstanceÖ
