As of now, I am driving.

( there is a slight chance....a friend who is going as well " Hammertime " whom we talked about borrowing another friend's 3 car carrier and towing them and maybe selling the 3rd spot for those who might want to fly or shotgun or...., but I heard that 3 car carrier might go on ebay soon , as he is loosing business )

It is seeing the center of the USA rather than zipping past it. A few of us made the same trip in 08 and it was great but not for everyone.

I'm going again almost for sure. I'm thinking of taking a more southerly route, maybe I-40 only because I've tried both I-70 and I-80 neither of which was all that exciting.
In 2008 I started on Hwy 50 but after the first day gave up due to snail-like progress.

I-40 is better overall than 70 or 80. 70 is hell because of Kansas; I haven't run most of 80 since I was a kid.

I read you; I'm just not a fan of large caravans over long distances.

BTW I enjoy going slow, but I want it to be at my own pace. It's selfish, but there you are

Having driven on I-40 a BUNCH, and if you are coming from Maryland and how far south you would have to come to get to I-40, I would stay on 70 and at least you wouldn't lose a day or two travel. Unless you just have a burning desire to come to God's country, I mean the south, it is no different in Western Oklahoma, all of Texas, and 85% of New Mexico, than it is in Kansas and Nebraska. Just my 2 cents.

having grown up in the mountains and having never even been as far east and off the mountains as Denver (east coast yes, plains no) until in my 30s.... it actually makes me uncomfortable with how flat it is.... like there's something wrong with the world there...

You can fly the family right into Moab or to Denver and then have them enjoy the scenic part of the drive.

We'll see but this may be the way to go. The time of year means the kids would need to miss school so this would lessen the number of days out of school too.

Charles,
Cassie really wants to go. Let me know when you decide if your girls will be going. If so I'd like her to fly out with them. I think they would have a blast.

I'm dying to know your secret. My wife wants nothing to do with my "noisy, hot, cold, uncomfortable, hard-to-get-into stupid Land Rover".
