Don't know if it was that long ago, but I believe it had ~70 trucks. Expect 200 this year.
I don't think the area has enough trails to support that many vehicles.

Typo on my part, Salida. Town is large enough to handle 500+ people and there are enough trails of all levels to handle the vehicles.
I have also been looking at Farmington, NM for a future rally.
But I get ahead of myself.

The hotels in Montrose are starting to fill up.
We have not been able to set up a second "official" place yet. Hopefully this weekend.
August is a very busy tourist time in the area.
For some ideas on where to stay look here
http://www.montrose-colo.com/lodging/lodging.htm
I strongly adivce people to hurray up and make their hotel reservations.

We've used these guys quite a few times to ship new vehicles on dealer trades as well as when we sell vehicles out of state. They have always been good about timing, fairly priced and we've never had a problem with any vehicle they moved!

I've convinced the wife and kid to go this year. Looks like we'll try to camp somewhere nearby. Is anyone else planning on "roughing it"?

AlohaRover:

Just received this from Elk Mountain Resort, about 15 minutes outside of Montrose. Pricey for sure, but there may be a dozen attendees that would be interested... Your thoughts?

Ok Slackers,

You better get a hotel booked ASAP as they are ALL filling up fast! (The Best Western is FULL now)

Also help us out by filling out a online registration form. It does 2 things: 1. We will get a better head count to plan the event. 2. For all of us volunteer trail leaders, it well let us know the interest in some of the trails. We may run more than one group per day on a trail, or delete some if no one wants to run a trail.

The volunteer trail leaders will literally be spending hundreds of $$$$ of their own cash and vacation days prerunning trails in the coming months please help us out by spending some quality time picking out trails that interest you. (Help us help you)

Peter has done a kick ass job on the Rally web page, and has an easy online registration form.

Hope I didn't step out of line here Pete, just trying to help.

Get after it.....slackers.

Cheers

Mike

Well, found out that shortly after scheduling this years National Rally that a contract for a very large hotel renovation was handed down and Montrose will be housing no less than 250 rooms for this contract. Soooo the rooms are booking up fast! That being said we have managed to reserve a couple of blocks of rooms for our participants. I would HIGHLY recommend booking your room now as even if the construction companies don't take the rooms, August is peak season for tourism out here.

Here are the two hotels, number of rooms and rates that we have held. Rest assured we have personally visited both sites and can vouch they are clean, nice, safe and what we would consider "worthy" of our members.

Country Lodge
1624 East Main (Right next to the Best Western)
www.countryldg.com
$85 night
Holding 6 rooms (All that was left)
Must ask for Solihull Society or Land Rover National Rally to get special rate
970-249-4567

Holiday Inn Express
1291 S. Townsend
$101 night
Holding 20 rooms, can reserve more if needed but will need to do so very quickly
Must call to reserve and ask for LNR rate to get special rate
1-800-550-9252

All hotels have Continental breakfast and High Speed Internet access included in their room

Doug,
Wow sounds like a nice place.
15 minutes isn't too bad of a drive.

We will be offering shuttle buses this year for the Cocktail Party and the Banquette dinner.
But these will just be for the main hotels we have booked.
Just something else to keep in mind.

Pete

As my old Boss reminded me at the Christmas Party each year about DUI, "There is no such thing as a 3000 dollar cab ride."
