2004 Southern Appalachian Expedition

Southern Land Rover Society (SOLAROS) presents the 2004 Southern Appalachian Expedition (SAE)

WHERE: Blairsville, GA
WHEN: November 5-7, 2004
EVENT SITE: Mountain Oak Cabins and Campground Directions / Website
TRAILS: Cooper’s Creek/Suches (beginner), Beasley Knob ORV Park (intermediate/advanced), Tellico ORV Park (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
MORE DETAILS: Click here

We have secured the entire Mountain Oak Cabins and Campground for SAE. Mountain Oak has showers, a laundry room and electrical and water hookups at most campsites. Mountain Oak also has twenty-nine 30 and 50-amp hookups for RVs.

There are 47 campsites at the campground (but do not be alarmed there is plenty of spots for camping that are not designated as campsite that we have the ability to use) with 18 of the spots having electricity and water and 29 spots having 30 and 50 amp electricity, sewer and water hookups for RVs.

Mountain Oak is located on Mulky Gap Road just one block from the intersection of Blue Ridge Highway (Old US 76) and Mulky Gap Road. Three miles past Mountain Oak Mulky Gap Road becomes Forest Service Road #4.

This should be an excellent offering of trails between Beasley Knob (5 miles from campsite), Cooper’s Creek/Suches (3 miles from campsite) and Tellico (35-40 miles from campsite).

Due to our location there will be plenty of sight-seeing for those who are not interested in off-roading. Among the options are:

- Brasstown Bald (the highest point in GA)
- DeSoto Falls Scenic Area
- Helton Creek Falls
- Brochure with a map and a listing of antique, arts, crafts and gift shops of Blairsville, GA
- A “Points of Interest” brochure from the Union County/Blairsville Chamber of Commerce.

If you are not interested in camping there are two hotels. Both are in the heart of Blairsville putting them about 2.5-3.0 miles from the event site. They are:

1. Holday Inn Express 333 Fisher Street, Blairsville, GA 30512, 706-745-6844
2. Best Western Milton Inn 222 Highway 515, Blairsville, GA 30512, 706-745-6995

If you are interested in obtaining a cabin see Blairsville Chamber of Commerce for a listing of area cabins at http://www.blairsvillechamber.com/lodging.htm

There will be an auction and dinner (Pappy Red's) on Saturday night.

If you have any questions feel free to email me at president@solaros.com.
