ZF HP 24 Transmission

I thought I would check here to see if anyone has a d90 zf transmission with linkage or anything that would help in the conversion from a 5 speed to the zf.

Otherwise I will look at the local junk yards for a disco trans.

Anyone document the conversion from a 5 speed to the zf automatic? or know someone who has .
I know ECR has done the conversion but I dont have the cash they want : (
Thanks
ron

Ron, I could be wrong, but I think you need to be looking for a ZF HP 22, not the 24, as the 24 is electronically controlled (as used on the RR). You can use some of the parts from a 24 to build a stronger 22, but can't use the 24 in a 90. Your best bet is to search the salvage yards for a 22.

I talked to mike at ECR and he said the 24 was the heavy duty version to the 22. Is the 22 in the 97 nas d90?

I know the 22 is in the disco, i can get one here with 70k on it for $695 and $150 for the linkage and trans lines. I can use an after market shifter as i know the center console for the 90 is mucho money.
any idea where to look for someone who has done the conversion?

Been there done that

I converted a 94 D90 to an Auto box and personally it was not worth the money to convert it. I used all Land Rover parts. Tranny/ xfer case was from a 98 Disco. I got lucky there when I picked it up I was able to obtain a lot of parts off of the disco. Next time I'll just step up and buy a 97, a couple of friends were able to buy theirs for around the 19 to 21 K range. Of course it's all about the timing and these particular trucks were not trail sluts.

Mark, did you have to change the transfer case when you did the conversion?
Im hoping to get the conversion done for under $1,500 with me doing the work.

I have tried to purchase 2 1997's within the last 8 weeks but lost both to people that visit this site : )

Im talking to a guy now on another.
But this truck has seen the trail and Im not sure how the guy drove it.
He said he has it serviced @ the rover club house ???

If I fail to get a 97 then im going to push ahead with the conversion.

Ron,

FWIW:

Rover Club House (www.roverclubhouse.com) is shop here in North Carolina (Durham). I have taken my rover there before, and have been VERY pleased with their work and the caliber of their people.

True, this cannot guarantee that the truck is in wonderful condition, but whatever work has been done at RCH has been quality. Good Luck,

-Mike

Ron,

If you do convert I would be interested in the manual stuff, especially the flywheel and that stuff, maybe even the trans.

Also there was an ZF 22HD in lwbs. That is what I would lean toward. AFAIK the 24 was only in 4.6HSE/4.6SE and 03-04 DIIs

ron, thanks ill keep that in mind. Someone in GA wanted to trade me a zf and transfer case from a 95 disco with 120 k on it for my Badger Top straight accross. Did not seem like a good trade for me. Im hoping to get the trans, tranfer case shifter and linkage for under $1400.00

When I purchased the Auto box it came with the Xfer case, I was able to recoupe some of my cost when I sold the R380 & the Old Xfer Case.

mark thats the plan sell the xfer case and 380. I may end up going to a junk yard and getting the zf and xfer box. I have found both zf and xfer box but they all seem to be missing those little bits that can add up $
