WTB: Speedometer Cable and Road Speed Sensor

For my 85 110 with 3.9 V8(14CUX). Has 1.4 LT230 and R380 from a NAS90, in case that matters for the speedo cable. Let me know what you got.

TIA,

Kent

Oh you say VSS as well so you need both cables. I think EFI Defender cables are hard to find as they were only used on NAS trucks.

If it were me I'd get a VDO speedo and you can run it and the EFI signal from a Disco 1 VSS.

I'll be running a GPS speedo, so all I need is the speed sensor and cable necessary to enable the ECU to get proper reading for fueling the engine....

I guess the D1 VSS and lower cable will suffice?

You could it needs a resistor added.

Why waste money on a GPS sender for a speedo when the VSS will run it for free

The disco VSS does not use a cable. It connects directly to the transfer case.

Its not a sender to run the speedo. The speedo itself is a GPS unit.

So, I guess if anyone has a Disco VSS, Im interested.

Thanks for the info John.

Okay. GPS speedos are not really as good as ones driven by the vehicle.

You really want to buy new. They are not that expensive for the VSS.

New ones Ive found online are around $270. That is expensive to me.... Am I looking at the wrong sensor?

Sure if you buy genuine everything is expensive. The aftermarket ones work fine.

Wouldn't you want the transducer from a Classic or Defender since you're running a 14cux?

the actual drive gears come in different colors and you should choose one based on the size rubber you intend to run.

Either work.

The only complexity is that you need to add a resistor to the disco VSS. AMR3386 has the resistor inside the box. It is all explained in one of the VDO speedo threads.

He is not running an actual speedometer, so it does not matter. The VSS is just telling the ECU if you are stopped or moving to switch idle modes.

Yes, I just need the engine to run smoothly, and apparently the VSS is required to do that. This is frustrating. If its not one thing, its another. Once I figure out the VSS situation, I'm sure there will be something else I will need to do to get one step closer to making this truck run, so stay tuned. Thanks for help guys. This forum is invaluable.

Really, you can just go to any mall with an allen key and get one off the first Disco you see. They will never notice the difference.
