WTB: NAS 90 trail rig...after horrific experience

I have just been through the most horrific attempted purchase experience of my entire life. 2 months of my time wasted. And I've purchased a few cars in my day, so it's not my first time at the rodeo.

After asking price was discussed, I made a reasonable offer. Seller wanted to think it over. Came back and RAISED his asking price significantly (what is this..."Pawn Stars"???...I go one price, the other party goes up???). Back and forth, back and forth...then seller goes radio silent completely. Similar scenarios on a small basis also went on during this period as well, should've been a red flag (he'd say I'll be in touch tomorrow...then 3, 4, 5 days go by without a word).

Finally give up, but then he gets back in touch with me...come to an agreement on price (above his initial asking price by 15%...wtf). I fold (against my better judgement), and say lets do it...even though given condition it's probably more than the vehicle is realistically worth. Seller asks for 3-4 days since he's busy, I say no problem. Friday we set for the afternoon, I inform him I took the day off work, went to DMV to get temp transit tag (time & money spent on my end), pay my insurance in full adding this onto my policy and have docs in hand (more time & money), have cashiers check made out to him + additional funds in previously discussed format for the full price (NO financing/etc...all funds in hand), and am ready to go.

Friday comes and goes...not a word. No response to my calls or texts. 9pm get message that some things came up, let's do it first thing Saturday am. I say well...ok, just let me know. Sat am comes and goes...likewise no response to my calls/texts. Finally 4pm (after wasting my entire day sitting around) get a message that something came up again, he had to go into work all day. I couldn't have been notified of that beforehand???!!! Says Sunday morning. Riiiight. Sunday am comes and goes with...you guessed it, nothing. Around noon get a text that it's ready to go, BUT wants to change payment method previously discussed???? At this point, banks are closed, I'm pissed to high hell, and wasted not only an entire weekend but the past two months. This is where I throw in the towel on principle alone. Oh yeah, and I have relatives in from out of town at my aunts' house where I'm supposed to be Sat & Sun...but I can't show because I'm sitting around waiting endlessly.

Which brings me here. Does ANYONE have a NAS 90 trail rig they want to part with, for a reasonable price, with NO GAMES and cash in hand? Any colors other than yellow/red. I'm a man of my word, when I tell someone something you can set your watch by...my fault being that I probably expect others to do the same, and don't understand when they won't or don't.

That's my story...oh, and no the seller is not a board member.

Damn dude that sucks. It's too bad some people don't value others' time. Bummer.

Good luck with the search

Take a deep breath and call him back. Agree on a time and place, call the morning of, and confirm. Then, an hour or so before the meet, call again to confirm. Then don't show. It might be tough to do(on your end), but might make you feel better and have a laugh.

I would of walked when he raised his asking price.

If he comes calling, deduct your time and incidental expenses. It would only be fair.

Or just walk away and note sellers name here

Sorry to hear about your experience... sounds like a recent house buying experience I had... we were negotiating the price, we were only 5k apart, and then the seller jacked the sales price of the house by 90k.

I'm guessing it was sold to someone else for less. haha. I feel for you, Jason! Maybe even a little more frustrating is when the price goes DOWN and is sold to someone else. My parents had been in contact with a seller for about a year (this was about 7 years ago) to buy his house but it was overpriced and he was selling it without a realtor. They worked that entire year getting him down. He came down a little bit but was firm as could be. Then when my parents sold their house up here and were ready to just bite the bullet, they went to buy the house and he told my parents he had just sold it to another couple for about $100k less than he had told my parents was his bottom (and even less than my parents had offered him!!). Apparently he got sick and just sold to new buyers he had just seen instead of picking up the phone and calling my parents who had been interested all along.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Jason. I am excited for you anyways, I'm sure you'll find a great truck soon. Sometimes when sales like this don't pan out, you are being saved from a lot of other headaches - potential fraud and other liabilities.

If you really want a trail rig, you should look at ROW trucks. For 10k to your door you can find something locked, cage, etc. and perhaps even a galvy frame. UK trail trucks (trial trucks as they call them) can be awesome set ups.

What a colossal waste of your time. That “seller” should get blackballed by the board members. However, here is a good opportunity.... there is a extra clean black rig worth at least $60k out west. You could probably land it for the low $20s.

Glad to hear it was just a smoker and not a car-b-q.

That's what you get for dissing the red and yellow

White is still my favorite color on a defender (on and off a flatbed), despite the fact you own two.
