WTB-Diesel Filler Cap

need a diesel filler cap to replace the lockable plastic type (not the earlier metal type).

Mine suffered an incident some months ago and while it still screws into place, I'm beginning to question its sealing capabilities now that I notice some rainbow-colored snow and fresh diesel creeping out of the filler cap area when I fill up.

I don't have the key with me now, but if it locks, hopefully it has at least one key.

is it a pressure cap or not? do you have a seperate breather line for the tank? if you need the cap to let air in under vacuum and you get a non-pressure cap because you don't have a breather, I think you might vacuum lock your fuel.

there is a small diameter tube that comes up from the tank connecting about 1" below the filler cap. Is that the breather?

I'll take and post pictures later, but what happened is I was out of my routine filling fuel a few months ago (different station, distracted etc.) and forgot to replace the filler cap. Embarrassing, I know. but I went right back to get the cap, but not before it had been run over. Now the locking cylinder in the center is half gone and diesel sometimes spills out of there when I fill it all the way up.

I was in the process of accepting the inevitability of replacing my fuel tank because I've been noticing some leakage but thought just maybe the dinged up filler cap may be the culprit. Fuel spills out of the top where the partially broken cap is and trickles down the filler neck to the tank and saturates the plate area underneath giving the appearance of a leaking tank.....or at least I want to think that's the issue.

Just want to replace the cap before I embark on the tank swap just to make sure.

EDIT: thanks Bruce.

if you fill your tank with bananas, it will baffle the fuel and prevent spillage. you can also use dead mice or scones.
