Wtb d90 project vehicle

HEY GUYS I AM NEW TO THIS SITE SO IF THIS POST IS NOT IN THE APPROPRIATE PLACE I AM SORRY. MY DAD HAD A D90 WHEN HE WAS GROWING UP AND I AM WANTING TO BUY A FIXER UP D90 SO WE CAN BUILD IT TOGETHER. I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN LAND ROVERS AND SO HAS HE BUT THE ONLY ONES IVE BUILD ARE THE DISCOS. I AM NOT SURE ON WHICH MODELS YOU CAN OWN/IMPORT OR WHICH ONES ARE THE BEST TO HAVE (BRAGGING RIGHTS). I WANT TO BUY A TRUE RHD MANUEL AND IVE HERAD THAT THEY ARE CHEAPER BECAUSE OF RESALE VALUE. WHICH IS GREAT BECAUSE THATS EXACTLY WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR AS I WILL NEVER BE SELLING THIS ONE. ALSO WHAT ENGINE I NEED TO BE LOOKING FOR. PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD DO. AGAIN I WANT A FIXER UP BUT NOT A COMPLETE PILE OF RUST. WE CAN DO PAINT, LIFT, BODY AND SOME ENGINE WORK. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP. ALSO I AM IN BIRMINGHAM, AL IF THAT HELPS BUT I CAN GO AS FAR AS I NEED FOR THE RIGHT ONE.

I WANT IT TO TURN OUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS IF POSSIBLE

WELCOME TO DEFENDER SOURCE!!!! A LOT OF YOUR QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED BY PERFORMING A SEARCH (THIRD DROP DOWN MENU FROM THE UPPER RIGHT). EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS ON HERE SOMEWHERE.

RHDs are often cheaper because they were imported from another country where they are more common. But did you mean this Manuel?

Sorry about the all caps i use all caps at work just a habit i guess. didnt mean to yell at you guys. As far as a budget really just depends on the vehicle. i have $20,000 set aside for this project but if i can get one for a few thousand and fix it completely that would be the way i would like to go.

These trucks are money pits... If you have an estimate... triple it.

You can buy a good platform with that amount and take the girlfriend or who ever to dinner/movies.

You'd be better served to get a truck in already good condition as opposed to buying a junker and putting money into it IMO. You should be able to find a very solid TDI 90 for under $20,000

I really just want know where you can find a cheap one to rebuild. Also v8 vs Diesel. Its not really about the money as much as it is about the experience. My dad dosent have much longer and im trying to rebuild what he had (maybe a little better) when he was in college.

Patience always pays up. (I have very little )

Try Craigslist first.

Also, with craigslist what cities would you try. The only ones in Birmingham are always listed for 60k+

Cameron, welcome to the forums. The truth is there are no cheap ones available. The very best deal you can make is to buy one overseas and import it. This is of course also the riskiest and takes the longest and will most likely net you a rust bucket unless you get it inspected by a third party you trust or you are very very lucky.

That said if it were me I'd search this forum for "Tithonus" and then follow the rabbit hole. I suspect you can get a low rust rhd 90 for the best cost/value and put a V8 in it when it gets here. I'll note that your reference picture is LHD, conniston green, and has NAS spec cage and basket - all would cost a small fortune to replicate and you would be better served starting with a NAS truck.

p.s. I have to ask - what work requires ALL CAPS?

How set are you on making the truck look like the one in the picture?

My opinion: Making a ROW truck look like a Green NAS90 involves buying so many parts, many no longer available (NLA), that it would certainly not fit in your budget. It would be easier to wait for a NAS truck with the same color scheme as the one you want, then fix it up.

I did exactly that before all the imports starting coming in, and it was still a PIA in 2009. I wish I could help you out with cost, but someone here told me if it made me happy, stop keeping track. It's well over 20k though.

We have a lot things in the military that are written in ALL CAPS. Why, I don't know.
