WTB: components to make a POE style liftgate/rear door

I'd like to start assembling parts to convert my 1984 Defender 110 to a POE style rear door setup. It is basically comprised of

1. A liftgate on the top - hard top series or NAS POE models have this
2. half tailgate that opens either either like a pickup (hinged at the bottom) but preferably the NAS style side swing
3. nas style tire carrier or hood mount kit

Looking for pieces to accomplish any variations to the above, but the bottom line is to build a setup that allows me to keep my rear door lower half on when I remove the hardtop.

thanks
charles

Charles,

Ron Peppard has a tailgate that he bought new from Wise Owl last summer that he's been trying to sell. Try his cell 7816402640. He may have a line on a lift gate as well- Ron is a bit of a used parts mogul-in my eyes anyway.

I think if Charles wanted to splash out for a new one, he'd pick up one from RDS for 260.

Ron I have been busy, but I'll try contact you later today or tomorrow. But Jim is likely right - I know the new hood mount kit is too rich for me Clay.

charles,

the last couple conversions i did i used the swing out style rear door. especially since you are going with a rear tire carrier. just my $.02. i just saw someone with one of those upper tailgates but it sold pretty fast. good luck.

Yup I have the nas style rear tailgate and tire carrier that hinge on the right. The top part that opens like on a pickup bed cap is what I still need, and everyone has referred to it as the liftgate. But to be clear it's the back of the hardtop that hinges on top and opens upward with a window

thanks

I wouldnt even bother trying to fit the fiberglass one, you can be assured its a different shape, and its hinged externally which will interfere with the gutter.

George has one on his site now, its 600 too, but at least it includes all the hardware which will be $$$ to get separately if its all available.

Yeah he stuck that up in response to my inquiry. Thinking it over - that's not cheap either

Regarding hardware, I saw Mike's conversion on the ECR site that he put in bigger glass and didn't use a handle - just had a L shaped piece on the bottom to have the gate hold it in. I already want to go with gas struts, so it leaves me wondering how much hardware I actually need beyond the hinges. For the RN one, it looks like I'd need about another $200 for hinges and seals but thats not counting any of the locking mechanism.

C'mon George, hook a brother up with a 5 finger discount.

Contact Wise Owl Innovations . I bought mine from wise owl for $50 no glass no hardware - I just had to clean it up, paint it and buy some hinges. Do it fast - last year they had complete - as new "take offs" for $450. Once some of the bigger parts supplier houses find out out them they will buy them up and sell them for a couple hundred more - if they haven't already done it.

I emailed Ike and he responded very promptly saying he had sold the gtood ones and all he had left was rusty junk, so I didn't persue it further.

Surely you have access to more of these on that side of the pond than this side?
