WTB Bonnet Spare Tire Mount (Carrier)

Looking for a spare tire mount (carrier) for the hood of my '97 D90. Have a set of Boosts and want to toss good old wheel #5 on the hood.

Something like this:

Buy a second hood... so you can switch back and forth. The tire on the hood/Bonnet reduces visibility, but it looks cool.

Brandon,

I believe you will need to make a custom mount if you want to mount an alloy wheel to the bonnet. The bonnet carriers are made for the steel wheels which have a different through hole and offset. I have a bonnet mount and wish my alloy wheel would fit.

Good point Paul. Maybe I could use a rear door spare mount for the hood (with some doctoring)...? That or I could buy a hood spare carrier and steel wheel. I'd be looking to purchase either of these combos.

I know RoversNorth has the rear spare mount and I could add 4 rubber bumpers to likely achieve what I am looking for with the Boost wheel mont.

Otherwise I could buy the steel wheel mount and spare and have a tad better visibility, and keep the 5th Boost on the rear door.

Still looking for that darn hood spare mount...

We will have a Terrafirma bonnet mount available in December - I think it will work with the alloy as it does not fit the same way as the OEM style.

PM or email for details.

The RN parts are ridiculously expensive. I think those damn rubber bumpers are about $25 each. You might be better off having a local fab shop make one for you for the wheel you want to use. You should ask your trusty independent Rover mechanic for advice if you have one.

I have steel wheels, and got my bonnet mount from PA Blanchard.
Their kit works great, but you need the older bonnet for it to mount correctly.
Send them a pic of the underside of your bonnet and they will tell you if it will works.
Your first picture is the same one they send.

You will find it in "odd ball sales" on the web site.

I got mine from PA Blanchard as well. There are seperate LR part no's for the full kit for steels vs alloys. I had to tell PAB which one I wanted when I ordered. Only difference from what I understand between alloy and steels are the retaining bracket IIR. Kit was under $100 shipped!

Now if I could only find a stinking pair of rear mud flaps for my truck to replace the Rovers North pair that fell off in the wind...

That's it! The proper LR kit has all that bracing that goes underneath the bonnet to support the weight. I have insulation installed under my bonnet, so pic wouldn't help. The instructions that come with the LR original kit are clear enough. even comes with the rivets!
