It prevents you from shifting the transfer case hi-lo range lever unless you have the transmission in Neutral, foot on the brake.

Really? Guess it doesn't work in my '97 Disco. I've always put it in neutral and shifted between high and low while rolling very slowly. Can't have my foot on the brake and roll.

Well, I thought it was tied into the brake, but I suppose I could be wrong about that. I know the transmission shift interlock is, so you can't take it out of Park unless you have your foot on the brake and I just supposed that the T-case interlock was tied into the same circuit. It's probably just tied into the Neutral switch then. Since most of my experience with the interlock is in getting rid of them, I haven't really paid a lot of attention to how they actually work (when they do!) I've removed quite a few of them when swapping LT230s into RRCs as the RRC doesn't have the circuitry to actuate the interlock solenoid (well, the '95 might as it's electrically almost the same as a DI) but for the mos part it seems to be pretty much unnecessary anyway.

Postscript- back on the road

Last Monday I drove a rental car back to Truckee with a stop at British Recyclers in Rancho Cordova. Justin sold me a clean low mileage LT230 for $200. He's a Rover guy I'll be happy to buy from him again.

British Recyclers.

Despite TigerDan's best efforts to find me a connection to garage space, none was available on Tuesday. Dan's friend found a competent shop who got me right in. Still had to spend Tuesday night but they finished early Wednesday. If someone asks I'll share the name of the shop but it took some persuasion to take on my 110 and $125/hour shop rate is hardly bargain rates.

Sorry, but I'm 61 and I just didn't feel like changing the TC in a snow covered parking lot.

But I made it back to my humble abode in San Bruno.

One issue is the speedometer. The mechanic said the new TC has an electronic speedo pick up and my '88 110 uses a cable. He tried to swap out of the broken TC but the little plastic gear had melted!

Does anyone have a mechanical speedo pick up with the correct gear for a 1.2 LT230 for sale? Or know where to source one?

Thanks,

Mike

PS. The LT230 is one TOUGH little box. It appears I drove it about 800 miles on Interstate 80 at 75/80mph with zero fluid before it made a sound! It is a truly horrible sound when it starts.
