I can't add to the reasoning of "why", all I can say is that Exmoor has given us that answer time and time again. If you can get it to fit, please post up here and I'll relay that to Exmoor.

I bet the farm it fits. They probably don't want you to cut the top because of warranty issues. If it fits a Wolf it will fit a Tithonus without the front exo cage. I ran mine without it for a while before I got the nerve to cut it. Good luck

I'm tall and I would need to make a little extension of my sleeping platform to fit my feet forward of the bulkhead but it's just not possible with the x-bars.
Chris
Why don't you just reman the B hoop without the X brace? That way you keep the original top and the rest of the cage.

I followed what they told me to do and it worked out fine. The cutting of the top is a hard thing to swallow.
The only 'cut' would be for the bolt and/or puck to go through where the A to B hoop attaches right?

Also, if the B had the X brace removed, you could add a smaller diagonal higher up in the corner so to speak, that didn't interfere with the bed platform.

Correct. That's all I had to do.

Thanks, Abe. I'm positive you're right. If this is the case, my plan is to get the local awning company to stitch a reinforcement around the bolt/puck and add a Velcro flap to the slit that has to be cut. I think it should look pretty "factory".

That's an interesting idea. But, if you're going to go to the trouble of building another B hoop, why not build lower C and D hoops while you're at it? I'm so conflicted on this problem. On one hand, I want my rifle mounts and I want to be able to sleep back there but the price is an entire cage build.

Do you think a fabricator could cut/grind the X brace off and make it look good?

The great irony of it all. I'm cutting a Tithonus top. This must be great entertainment for Raub.

Chris, I will check it when I return home, but pretty sure it should be quite simple. I will run it by Bill at RTE and get his thoughts as well....

Chris
If you already have the top that fits the cage there is no need to redo the whole cage. Just reman the b hoop at original hight with out the X brace. Problem solved. Am I missing something?

It won't make sense to most but I really want a canvas top, the standard kind that Exmoor makes. I don't care for the look of the PVC and the added height of the Tithonus cage looks funny to me. I sometimes wish I had bought a standard ex-MOD instead of the Tithonus since I ended up replacing everything but the body and dash anyway.

So here's the deal: the Exmoor top absolutely works on the Tithonus roll cage. There is one minor modification to the top required but it takes less than a minute and requires no sewing or other major alternations. You will need some parts to do the swap. Fortunately, Brian at Defenders Northwest had them in stock and I was able to get it all done wrenching by myself in one long, sweaty day. I will be posting up the details of the conversion in the small projects forum but in the meantime, if you need the parts to do this, talk to Brian before buying a top and he can get you squared away.

This is an amazing top, far exceeding my expectations. I was dreading the idea of a PVC top and I figured that I was buying something that would get me through the summer until I could take the cage off and mod it. I was blown away when I unpacked the top. It's incredibly well-designed and well-made. In fact, I'm changing my whole plan and keeping this top and cage. I'll be modding the B pillar to alter the X-brace but the rest is staying.

More details coming soon.

Exmoor manufactures this top - If you don't have the WOLF or Tithonus cage on your truck the top will not work…

Our fixer is in the UK at the moment and was able to run down this solution in person with Exmoor and confirm the additional items needed. We will be pulling together a kit next week for any Tithonus owners who want to do the conversion - and if stock allows we can plug in a pre-order special for D-Source.

Well crap, this certainly poses a problem!! It looks great Chris!!

I, like Chris, wanted the canvas top, with windows, and half the cost- but requires chopping the Tithonus cage 2-3". The PVC offers no windows, but really does look nice- and allows 3" more headroom for us tall guys!

Brian, I have two Tithonus, so put me down for two kits- asap please, just PM payment info. I may do one canvas and one PVC, but after seeing Chris' pic, it sure is tempting to just do the Wolf and be done.

Thanks for trying the Wolf Chris, and look forward to your write up!

Cheers, and Happy Fourth!!

Dale, I do have one Tithonus PVC top in khaki green with side windows for you . Brand new. Custom ordered from the original supplier of these tops.

I believe that the Exmoor top is an improved model over the standard MOD PVC tops manufactured by Trim Technology. Not 100% certain but I believe that Exmoor has added some usability features that are common with their new line of civilian PVC tops.

There is one window in the back, not unlike the window you'd get on a Badger. The good news is that additional windows should be very easy to add for people that want them. These tops are PVC and about the same thickness as a commercial-grade tent like you'd hire for a wedding. Most cities have awning manufacturers and they should be able to add the windows to your spec.

Like I said earlier, I'm blown away by the quality. I love Badger tops and Chris Laws is an awesome dude but if you're unwilling to wait the year+ to get a Badger, this is an near-equal solution IMHO if you're willing to give PVC a shot. The stitching quality is absolutely equal to Badger and in many areas, the attachments are even better than Badger. The fitment on my Exmoor is somewhat loose because I'm lacking the overhead ribs on the top of the cage but we're tracking those down and that will make it fit more tightly. Even without the ribs, there is no flapping around on the highway--it's just a more rumpled appearance.

Hey Chris looks great, good find! We are interested in one of those for my son's tith.

Regarding the X brace I cut it off as soon as I got the tith. I just felt it was too intrusive so it was one less thing to worry about when I cut down the cage.

As for the overhead ribs I purchased a couple for series 88/109 at RN. They have a somewhat closer angle but look ok for my standards.

I don't get the no side window thing. The first batch of tops we ordered had no side windows. It was like a tunnel back there. Down right dangerous. We had side windows installed. This new batch was custom ordered with them .

I am sure you have very good reasons as to why you did not want side windows, Chris. Would love to hear it.
