Windshield replacement in Nova

My windshield decided to end itís life today. Where can I get a new one in NOVA? I have ruled out having a windshield shipped by Atlantic British due to the shipping cost. Since I have never replaced or seen a windshield replaced I will need someone to do the labor. Any ideaís???

A few years ago I called around and found they were all about the same price, I wound up going with one that had the earliest avaiable slot -- it was over on Eisenhower ave. in Alex across from UPS. They did a fine job.

I have had great luck getting glass shop to cut a new one (using the old one as a template) and install. It was a few years back....but think it was $100 or so?

All thanks for the responses. After calling the usual places, Land Rovers Down South, Atlantic British, the local Stealership etc; 4x4 Land in Chantilly came out on top. I will let you know how the install goes.

Cheers

Mine is toast too. I'd be very interested in hearing what you ended up doing and what the $ damage was at the end of the day.

Great experience.

4x4Land had a very professional guy come out to their shop. He installed the window in about and hour.

Unless you want heated glass, or are a purist stickler, any auto glass shop can cut it for you, as the defender glass (windshield and side glass) are all flat glass and easy to repo. Pendy had mine cut by a local for next to nothing. Just like J**P CJ's. You don't have to pay a premium for LR original parts on that.

Installing the widow is a little tricky. The defender uses a gasket to keep the window in place; no glue is used. Once you get the gasket on the widow you need to find a way to compress and pull back the part of the gasket that sits on the inside of the window frame all at one time. The installer used a rope to accomplish it. Once itís pulled back you can place the window into the frame and begin pulling out the rope to seat the gasket. It all sounds easy but it took the experienced installers 1.5 hrs to complete the install.

In my mind you could save a few bucks and purchase the glass at the local glass shop ($100-$150) and pick up a new gasket from AB ($68). At that point you are out about $200-$210. Then you need to decide if itís worth your time to mess around with the window for hrs or just pay a guy to install it.

My J**p CJ was the same way. I installed mine a few times with the rope, and cracked the glass the last time. The good thing about a place that will cut and install, is if they break it, they replace it. If you break it, you have to buy another one or live with it.

The key to doing it yourself is using LOTS of soapy water for lube to keep the glass from being stressed by the rubber gasket not cooperating.

Yeah I broke a decent one taking it out for a respray. Thus the reason it was tossed. Do I need a template to get a new one or can they just go off the frame/seal?
