I take responsibility for not being more clear I guess. My budget is 3K-6K. I assume there are some classics that are out there that fit the bill in that budget.

I left my sunroof open for a week about 2 weeks ago... Damn lucky it didn't rain (Texas, so we're good)... Everything works, and the ski jump didn't warp. Just proof that I need to drive it more often so that crap doesn't happen.

Have you tried PT in Indiana for a truck? I'm not sure if he is on the forum, but he's my RRC go-to.

I vote for Chris's RRC especially since he dropped the price to $3k. Take care of the laundry list & you're still in budget. Plus it has a known working transmission.

Here you go. Not mine, just ran across it.

1987 Range rover classic diesel

1987 Range rover classic diesel - $6500

1987 land rover range rover

VIN: sallhame8ea306059

I recently imported from Italy Classic RR with the original 4 cyl 2.5 turbo diesel VM engine with 5 gears manual transmission , to find out that California DMV will not let me register it !? yes I thought too that a 25 years old diesel could be imported in California without problem ... obviously not at least for the guy at DMV handling my case.
I have the US custom import paper in my name , the official De-registration document from the Italian registry .
If you are out of California you should be able to register it (please check with your DMV) , or if you just want to use the car for off roading , rock crawler or on a ranch . It is in good original shape ,not perfect but ok considering the age , the heads have been redone 8,000 miles ago , the car has approx. 109K miles (175K KM) ,
the clutch slip a bit on high gear , I have the new spare parts to replace it along with the main engine seal and the throw out bearing , here are a few cons:
there is a 4" tear in the driver seat
the battery icon light on the dashboard is blinking but the alternator is putting out 14.3 V. and the batteries (2) are always full
The cabin lights are always on so I removed the bulbs ( there may be a on/off switch but I cannot find it)
The auto windows all work depending on how good you are in massaging the switches
There is air conditioning gear under the hood but it does not seem to work ? I cannot see any on /off comands in the cabin.
the headliner is starting to fail
there is a sweat of diesel from the tank sender unit (gasket?)
as you can see from the picture the hood insulation is damaged in the center
there are 2 rubber cushions on the rear axle stabilizer rods that needs replacement
there is one rust spot in the rear drivers side door just above the wheel well , there is some (very little ) superficial rust on the metal plate /guard under the fuel tanks a bit here and there

with that said , this is a 28years old car in original condition , it is a very good candidate for and easy restoration or just use it like that with the minor imperfections

Thanks. I talked to the guy the day he posted the ad, still cannot get him to send any pics of the rust areas.

No longer perusing a RRC. White 95 inbound. Thanks for everyone's help and input along this journey. I have some hilarious stories from talking with sellers about their classics.
Never trust someone that says "oh there is zero rust on my truck, come buy it, it's a steal". Then they have stop sign welded to floor. I really do feel for noobs looking with all the bullshitters out there.

But I bet the stop sign wasn't rusty! Besides, everyone knows it is only janky if you use license plates and drywall screws to patch rust holes.

I always hang on to my old plates for floor repair BUT I only use stainless screws from Nakatanenga...

Congrats on the purchase Matt.
