This dicussion is a little bit strange to me.

You need well aducated employees?

Just aducate them!
Do it now!

In Germany this will take 3 1/2 years. And it's splitted by practicals inside the shop and theoretics at schools of business.

This kind of dual aducation works very well since a long period of time!

Yes Arlo..but thee apprenticeship system doesn't work over here... There are no trade schools to go to once a week and nobody over here wants to be in a trade anymore.. They all think they are going to be lawyers or doctors or computor programmers or professionally unemployed.. We are raising a generation of people who think they are entitled to more for less...especially since the government makes it soooo easy to be on welfare...

Very interesting read from Clint Eastwood... a man who is known to be far from a pussy...and he's been around for a while..

Well, Dirty Harry's way of life sometimes figures out to 70 years of jail.

They don't have an apprenticeship program. I basically walked in there after high school because my parents made me get a job since I wasn't going to college. I was hoping to be a salesman so I could surf the internet all day in the air conditioning. They hired me to wash cars, and after actually working there I realised I wanted to be a mechanic. I basically just worked my way into the shop by doing bullshit work and helping the mechanics. Its probably different in my case because I just genuinely like Land Rovers and didn't care at all how much money I made. Most people probably become mechanics because they aren't qualified for much else and it is a great way to make decent money with no education. I still don't do it for the money. I can't think of another job that I'd rather be doing, but then again, I'm not qualified to do much else.

I would recommend just walking into a dealership or shop and tell them that you'd like to become a mechanic and are willing to work for it. You might get lucky.

After I left ibanking, I started as the night time receptionist at a Land Rover dealer because my wife said I could not just collect unemployment applying to the one other ibank in the area and chill out before law school. In a year, I went to parts guy, service writer, ran our auxiliary service location doing parts and writing service, and then parts manager. A love of land rovers goes far or at least it used to. Of course knowing how to fix them so I knew all the parts required for any job and remembering part numbers by heart certainly helped. As did being comfortable with the clientele. Now I sit behind a desk. On Saturday. Which is Valentine's Day. And also winter romp. For 10-16 hours a day.

Are any still on the road? I always thought it would be cool to figure out an engine and trans swap for them given how cheap they are as nearly every one I have seen for sale has a blown motor or trans.

You can only polish a turd to a low luster.....not worth the effort IMHO. There are a handful left running around ABQ.

I'll forward it to the usual suspects and see if they know anyone in the neighborhood

Jordan swapped the Soobie springs herself...now she knows what a spring compressor is!

Haven't had much luck tempting him back.....
Thank you for the kind words Trevor!
