Are the ones Matt does tapered or just like the stock ones except SS. If they are like the stock ones I'm in.

Why would you go with stock over tapered? Tapered seems to be the better solution that doesn't require the sleeve. Am I missing something?

I bought from Matt, and they look and work great. I bought the sleeves to put in and they do absolutely no good. It makes no difference with or without sleeves.

I was under the impression they would rattle without the sleeves. Did you crank them down tight enough?

I bought the tapered ones, but when I installed them they didn't line up with the holes in the door bottoms. I don't use the sleeves either. They rattle a little, but th esleeves a PITA, adn liek I said the hoels don't line up properly on my D-90.

I've got one truck with Matt's stainless studs and no sleeves, before that it had tapered studs with no sleeves. The tops dont rattle with either and I cannot detect any functional difference betwen the two except for the fact that the stainless ones dont rust and turn into crap.

The other truck has tapered studs and sleeves. The tops are hell to get off and dont tighten down to allow a nice door seal.

As far as I'm concerned, sleeves are a function inhibitor.

Maybe you guys can clear something up for me. I bought new door top studs from RN and put them in my 97 ST. The ones I took out were tapered also. But, when I was ordering, I saw that I needed sleeves ( or thought I did anyway ), so I ordered 4 of them. I assume now that tapered do not require any sleeves, and there must have been an untapered door stud at some point that required these. So, was the tapered thing an upgrade at some point? I have not seen any regular door top studs that require the sleeves when shopping around.

Also, the PO bought the quick connect nuts. I installed the door top studs and new seals on my door top and gave the truck a wash. When I went to remove the windows shortly after the quick connects were filled with water. This seems to be just asking for rust on the new door top studs. I was thinking about drilling a small drain hole in them, but then the water would drain back behind the door panel. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Yes, short of drilling holes, the holes are going to fill with water.

The tapered studs are OEM, the SS ones Matt had made are not tapered. Tapered, SS studs are available from Atlantic British, as are stainless quick nuts. The advantage of Matts studs (sure glad he isnt making nuts) is that they are less than half the cost of the AB ones.

Dont get quick nuts from Rovers North. They are either not stainless or made from really low-grade stainless and they rust like crazy. They suck.

I think the best thing to do is to take the quick nuts off every now and then and let the holes drain out.

OK, show of hands. How many are in for a set of Matt's stainless studs?

I'm #1.

BTW - the original studs are not tapered they are straight and meant to be used with the sleeves.
