I'm in the same boat -- the military roll bar with the seat belt mounts would be ideal (for me at least) but aren't easy to find, especially here. now if some enterprising soul with a tube bender and a MIG gun wanted to make a few $ . . .

roll bar

The question that Josh always points out is how much are you willing to spend to get a rollbar and do you want one that will mount up to an A cage or just a B pillar roll bar?

I for one would be happy with a roll bar. Obiously a cage would be better, but cost and installation effort would rise exponentialy I'd think. Safety devices has one -- RBL111, no idea how expensive it is though. I also don't see that it explicity has the top mount for the seat belt.

That looks like the one Bobeck had in his truck. Doesn't appear to have seatbelt mounts.

I think you're right -- wouldn't be that hard to weld on some tabs, though.

------ Follow up post added September 28th, 2011 01:36 PM ------

This version does have the mounts: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Defender-9...item2a134516c1

This one mounts in the bed

They one that was posted mounts to the capping points where a hoop set would go. Neither go to the frame, but im planning on the latter eventually

For that money I'd likely just get a truck cap cage sent over. A domestic solution would be nice -- what do the series people do?

if custom build is an option iron pig should be able to accomodate, after all they made Robbie Donaldson's rolled over disco 1 into a convertible.
said build reminds me of the early 2 door toyota 4 runner just to give you a mind picture.

I got this response from Charlie Williams:
"Thanks for writing.. Shipping via FedEx seems very expensive but I
have a commercial account with Cargo Force. They deliver within 6-7
days and provide a tracking # for shipment and they are quite
efficient.
I have the roll bar for sale in a mint and unused condition in stock.
I'll take a £170 for it shipped. The seat belt bars are like the Army
one and fit together with the full frame.! This roll bars are
galvanized and powder coated. Shipping is from my little shop here in
London, UK. I'll be shipping via Cargo Force on a 7 days delivery and
will take payment via Western Union or Money Gram. Please let me know
on price and e-mail me your complete shipping address."

To me this has a lot of red-flags. Anybody know of his shop? (Sorry Charlie if you are legitimate, had to ask)

The Bearmach is 2" tube with 3.2mm wall, mounts on body cappings. I'm afraid that it might present the illusion of safety.

I saw that actually. That's what got me thinking about a roll bar. Would this cage for an NAS work for a ROW???

I do not see why not. Email the guy on Ebay. He knows his Rovers.

Sounds nice Dale, how much for the s/t? Would it fit a ROW?
I am afraid though that a NAS part would not fit in my ROW budget. The ebay cage price was almost 10% of what I paid for my whole truck!
Thanks-

I made a 4 point roll bar with inertia reel seatbelt mounts to fit under the soft top of my series. I'll be making something similar for my 90 hybrid, to fit under the hardtop for when I go topless. It would be easy to replicate by me or anyone with a bender/notcher/necessary fab tools. The problem is that the best roll cages are the ones tied directly to the frame. I made it so it bolted through the tub, but the corresponding brackets under the tub were welded to the frame. The military style roll bar is for sure better than nothing, but personally I wouldn't rely on it to save my life in a rollover, given that it's only bolted to tub. If it were me I would look for a more permanent solution.

I have the military roll bar (with diagonals & tub connections) that I will part with for $225 plus shipping and I have the hoop set, canvas top, and header bar that I would also part with for $225 plus shipping. Hoop set does not include the above door gutter section.
