Hi, Chad-

I have a spare R380 I bought from another board member last fall while hoarding in prep for my 4.6 swap.

Original thread where I bought it: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ad.php?t=33590

I've been planning to sell it before transferring soon and intended to list it here this week, so the timing is fortuitous. I'll try and great some photos later today and post them for you.

I'll also be happy to pass to on for the deal that I got on it. $300! (But you'll need to come pick it up or work out shipping, etc.)

Murph

Hi, Chad-

I'm in Norfolk, VA (on the VA Beach/Norfolk line) near NAB Little Creek, if you know where that is.

I forgot to get some photos as I said I would! I'll get some here in a bit.

A few photos as promised!

As it was the day I picked it up from Bill, I just shifted through all the gears and was rewarded with a satisfying and solid clunk in each one.

I've included shots of the input and output shafts to show that its in pretty good shape. It needs a little cleaning, your shifter setup and some lube to then install it in your D and get it all dirty again.

I have heard from a couple of others who also need it since responding to your post, so please just let me know what your plan is. As I responded to your thread, you have defacto first rights!

Definitely want it. It'll be perfect for my setup and I'll get rid of my LT-77! and if there's swell I can swing by the outer banks!!! are you in a hurry to have it gone? I know you said something about deployment. My buddy also has a top in Roanoke so it would be a 2fer!

Also lemme know how you wanna handle the transaction? Paypal?

OK, sounds cool, Chad. I'll PM you with Paypal and contact info. Payment gets it held for you for whenever you can come for it!

The movers are coming in early-mid July sometime for my move to RI, depending on what gets arranged by the Navy. I just need to have it picked up before then, and we'd need to work around a couple of weeks where I'm travelling for a training detachment and then househunting leave.

Thanks, Murph

Howdy, Josh. Yep. My two "Boost-wheeled" D90s will soon join the Northeastern flock.

I'm finally getting my long-procrastinated D90 to-do list completed now so I don't have to move everything. Today was spent finally installing the long-ago groupbuy-purchased braided oil cooler lines on my 97 and covering myself and my truck with Mobil-1. (I did my 94 when I got them over a year ago.) Yesterday was spent putting VDOs in the 94. (The 97 has had them for four years.) The pile of parts boxes is shrinking. Now I just have to decide if I want to roll the dice and dig into the 4.6 swap in the next six weeks before having to move all my crap and drive the trucks north.

Chad, you have PM!

Yep. I wrote with him here a few months ago.

One of the other pilots from my squadron who is also headed up there this summer saw a "red D90 like mine" while he and his wife were looking for a house a few weeks ago. I'm assuming that they saw Steve's truck.

Do you need a 380 for a V8 or for a diesel?

for a Diesel. I have an early 300tdi and an old LT77 and it makes the engine site too far back, so I've been told the R380 sits forward a little more. I have a huge gap in between my engine and cowl.

At that price I have my finger over the pay button hoping the original poster doesn't take it... I also need a r380 for my 110 200tdi as the wife has a hard time shifting the lt77 and with the upcoming round the world trip it just may be in my best interests to make it easier for her.LOL.. I was thinking I would wait until I get to england and do the swap at the same time as a 300tdi install with new galv frame (everything is sooooo cheap over there...comparatively speaking))....but if I came across a good deal on a diesel one here I would do it before I left...in 2 weeks...LOL..

------ Follow up post added June 4th, 2012 10:09 AM ------

I am sure Stephen will chime in here on this but I believe the r380 gas tranny wont fit a diesel without some serious mods....front input shaft is completely different and last I checked the parts aren't available..???

aha, I missed that with the V8 Bell housing on the original thread where Murph got this one. This could force the switch to a V8 and get rid of my 300Tdi. Shayne, atlcruiser said he has one for $500 if your anxious.

The R380 is different for a diesel. Both the bell housing and input shaft are different. For a V8 one to fit the box has to be cracked open for a swap of parts.

What they all said! It is a V8 one, and would need a lot of stuff done internally and externally to make it work on a non-V8.

Got your PM, Chad. Just confirm for me that you're still in or not, so I can pass it on to Shayne if you can't use it.

Thanks.

I know that's a good price and I could use it down the line, but I'll give it up to you Shayne, I don't have an immediate use and nobody wants a wife with big forearms! Se la vie!

It is really much easier to buy the shorty r380 from Dave A than to try rebuilding a V8 r380 to work on a diesel.
