Be sure you know what you are asking for. There are Defender versions and Disco versions.
Just FYI.

I believe I have been talking with your mechanic in regards to the Discotech project?
Someone put a V8 R380 in there down the line and now it needs a correct Tdi R380 Discovery.
The best thing you could do is get the current gearbox rebuilt with the correct parts.
It'll save you money and you will be assured of getting the right thing.

If it isn't in regards to that project, sorry.

you are correct,

the problem is I sold the truck to a friend of mine & I did not know it had the wrong gear box in there.

Until he was broke down on the side of the road.

So I'm guessing the previous owner sold it after he burned up the gearbox & put in a V8 gearbox in it.

Pure speculation on my part.

Does anyone know where I can get it rebuilt with the correct input shaft & gear ratios for a discovery series 1?

thanks in advance to all

I told your mechanic that we'd rebuild the existing gearbox into the right version, but he said you wanted a used unit. I told him how hard that might be to find in the US and that you'd likely have to go to the UK to source a used or rebuilt one, but in those options you'll be paying a core charge, air freight and such.
Best thing to do IMO is to fix the truck's current gearbox.

Who knows, you might get lucky and find one, just make sure you ask for a 300 Tdi R380 made for a Discovery.

Your mechanic sent some great pictures and it for sure was a different gearbox and they sadly used a V8 version. We haven't seen the truck since we built it in 2002 and its a bummer to know that it got the wrong parts stuffed in it by some other place.

Best of luck. We still have a fondness for that rig (and all the trucks we built) and will do anything we can to help. Just let us know.

Have a greta weekend.

thanks ecr

I was wondering what it would cost to rebuild the current unit

we were just kicking some options around thinking a used one might be had in the states

wishful thinking

thanks again for the suggestion

Mine is a D90/D110 unit. Won't work, sorry. Southwestrovers might be able to help. I bet you might be able to find one stateside. Lots of people buy the drivetrain out of discos with a 300tdi as the motor is the same as a D90 so the gearbox may work for you.
