R380

I'm looking at the possibility of rebuilding the R380 in my Discovery versus buying one. Looking for an R380 that is in need of a rebuild. Preferably East Coast.

I don't know the specifics of what is different between a Disco and Defender R380 besides the bell housing and shift mount, which I have both of on my current trans.

Thanks,
Galen

You need to also specify diesel or gas.

Gas. Thanks, that's what I meant to say instead of Disco versus Defender.

OK, then you must find a gas, Disco/RR one then. There is no cheap way to convert another to work. They are quite rare in that configuration, so won't be simple to find.

You could pick up a diesel one, which are plentiful, but you will need a gas input shaft.

No idea. It's in the truck and it's snowing. I'll get under there when time/weather allows.

From Ashcroft's site:

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...od&productId=6

The manual boxes can be categorised as "Long Stick" as fitted to the Defender and "Short Stick" as fitted to the Disco.
If your serial number starts with any of the following then you have a longstick : 50A, 51A, 56A, 58A, 60A, 61A, 66A, 68A, 74A
If your serial number starts with any of the following then you have a shortstick : 53A, 55A, 63A, 67A, 69A, 73A

I have one in parts.

You are welcome to it for whatever you want to spend if you come get it.

The output shaft is nice and unworn.
